Sm465 shifter rail alignment

wwhat's the best way to get the shifter rails back in line when trying install shifter in an sm465 or how to get gears synchronized after stacking the game?

Everybody in neutral. Hopefully when you took it apart the top was in neutral
I had one once that I couldn’t get the rails back to neutral without taking it apart

Yep - the 465’s must be semi-engaged in reverse to remove/install the top cover.

And another confirmation on the half way into reverse.
It drove me crazy trying to get it engaged until I learned that and it slips right in
