My SM465 slides out of 2nd into neutral when you let off the gas. It doesnt pop out under a load at all, gravity pulls it out of gear. Is there a way to tighten it up?

since no one has said anything and i am not 100%.. i believe your synchros are bad.... my truck used to do that.... you can even pull on the shifter under heavy load and she aint coming out.. but when driving...let off gas and POP.. right out... my syncros were bad.... so i replaced my trans... hahahah...with a hydro donor setup so took all including trans..

:yikes: :sign27:

Swapping a 465 for a slushbox?! Are you crazy?

Nah I'm just messin'. Why not try to fix it or swap out for another 465? Muncies are cheap just about everywhere and it shouldnt be too hard to fix one in a weekend..........

wow never heard of one going from a manual to an auto for good reasons!!!!!

i will never go back to a slauto!!!

I have knee problems and being stuck in traffic hurts like hell. So im thinking of trading it or swaping the manual out.

Hydro clutch is only as soft as the clutch plate. And if it pains you to drive it, it aint worth it.

But there is hope! Learn how to float the gears, then all you have to worry about is the stop/reverse part. Saves wear and tear on the clutch and your knee! :D

That's how I drive, and it helped when I started driving 18 wheelers, I already did that so just needed to get used to 10 speeds

Same here. My driving instructor called it cheating. I'm not good at double clutching, so it was easier for me to float the gears, especially if I'd miss one. Now I just have to work on the double down

Yeah tried that but stop and go is the killer. :doah:

The only time its justified to go to an auto trans from a manual is if your building something turbo and want to maintain boost between shifts.

That being said your shifter problem kis a combination of syncros and probably the original 2nd (truly 3rd) gear design. Theres an entire unit to replace it that completely remedies the problem. Also the solid spacer that replaced the snapring in later models was just a bandaid.
