Ok did a little searching on the 2nd gear pop out problem I am having and want to get it fixed asap as I usually have passengers with me in the mud and don't need that shifter bustin a knee cap. I've seen it come out with some authority goin down the road lol... :eek1:

So my question is, is this snap ring something I can get at my local parts store or do I have to got to a transmission shop? I have also seen some references to a "sleeve" that goes in there as well. Does anyone know where I can find one? I tried searching and googling for it but came up empty handed. Maybe I'm not looking for the right thing.

I plan on pulling the PTO covers to check and see if the broken ring is sitting in there tomorrow to confirm that this is this problem and not a worn shift fork like I have also read.

Thanks

There are a number of retaining rings inside a 465. There are also first, second and third gear bushings on the main shaft that are pressed on. I rebuilt one last week and got the parts at my local transmission shop. Novak also has the parts. Somebody on here had a pdf of the factory manual. I can e-mail a copy if you like.

Years back,I recall J.C. Whitney sold a thing that looked a lot like a two peice shaft collar, that had groove or "ring" machined into its I.D.,that screwed together with allen head screws, and could be installed through the PTO covers without pulling the trans out,to fix the snap ring dilema..haven't seen them anywhere else since then,sorry..dont know who made them, but it might be some custom machine shop place that came up with that idea and sold them to Whitney and other tranny repair shops..

I got mine from Inland Truck Parts. Any heavier truck shop should be able to get them. I'd like to see the one that guy mentioned that you install through the PTO cover.
