I think the throw out bearing is stuck in the engaged position in my '73. Any clutch pedal position, any gear and any transfer case gear gets me no power to the wheels. I can see the shift rails in the transfer case moving so its not it neutral and the transmission sounds like its engaging gears when shifted. Any tips on how to break it loose? Or other things it might be? Thanks for your help.

Was it working and then suddenly stopped or did you just put it back together?

There is a drive sleeve in there right?

Yeah it was working/driving then sat idle for about 2 months and now its not working. Yeah there is a drive sleeve in there. I think if the sleeve was stripped it would make some noise. Everything sounds like the clutch is just stuck engaged :dunno:

Turns out it was the push rod between the z link and throw out lever. The PO had a 3" body lift in the front only and when I took that out it made the rod too long. I shortened it up and it is working again.

I have an 84 blazer with a hydraulic setup and it sat for about 2 months. I was driving it over the weekend, and began to go up a hill from a stand still. I heard a slight click and power no longer gets to the wheels - any suggestions?

Thanks, awesome forum here!

First, check to see if the transfer case jumped out of gear.
Always check the easy and cheap stuff first.

Ok I will do that. I've already attempted to get in 4 low, 4 hi, 2wd from in the truck; what are other ways I can check if it's out of gear? It's an np208 case.

Well, make sure the wheels are chocked, take the front hubs out of gear, put the transfer case in 4hi or low, then try to turn the front driveshaft.

If the transfer case is in 4wd, you should not be able to turn the shaft far.

Does the shifter feel right when you shift it?
You should be able to feel it moving the gears. If the shifter is not working right, it will feel sloppy and not much load when you shift.

I would check the clutch master cylinder too. A pop could be a cracked or leaky line/seal. No fluid = no clutch control

Ok, I will check the Master cylinder.

I checked the transfer case and its a o k.

Could a cracked or leaking hydraulic line cause the clutch to not lock into the engines power?

The transmission can be shifted throughout the gears while the engine is running.

You have to understand, a clutch is normally engaged. You could remove the entire hydraulic setup and the clutch would still be engaged.

The only way a hydraulic clutch could fail in the disengaged position, is either something binding not letting it release, or if the hydraulic line or master cylinder got stopped up and would not let the pressure release.
If yours is an external slave cylinder, watch it while someone presses on the pedal without the engine running and the wheels chocked.

If it moves in and out, then the hydraulics part is OK.
If it seems to be stuck in the out position, try loosening the line where it goes in the slave and see if that releases it.

Thanks Fordum, and all else, I really appreciate the assistance.

Ill run through these diagnostics as well.
