Gotta love it when things you'd think to be easy to find, are not.

I've seen threads elsewhere online (albeit older) about having a problem finding the later 465 to adapter gaskets. These are the paper style, not the earlier thick style.

They are available in even $7 gasket kits I'm finding, but I don't need yet another kit missing one gasket. I will buy multiples of the same gasket if I have to. I want to pull the trans, yank the old gasket off, and be able to put a new one on without having to make it, or scrape RTV when I invariably have to pull it again.

Transtar shows them in their catalog but doesn't indicate they sell them (part 323 on the 465 diagram, although no differentiation given between early or late model design), and I can't find JUST the gaskets. They are out there obviously, I just can't find anyone selling this gasket singly.

Yeah, time to get the small ball penis hammer out and tap out a gasket from bulk sheet material..
I have many gaskets for small engine side covers out of cereal and cracker boxes--they have better cardboard than most gasket material ,and they rarely ever leak or blow out a chunk like the oem ones..

Well for the $7 I can just buy the "kit", especially since I'm not in a hurry. I just don't like the idea of buying $7 worth of gaskets to get the $2 one I need. I will if I have to, but just the right gasket would be nice. And I suspect that would help a fair number of other people, since I doubt most people re-gasket a 465 every time they take the adapter loose.

That vendor responded to me, and said they only have kits. So I assume they buy them complete already.

What if you don't have a small ball penis? :dunno: ;)

Sorry Dorian, nothing of value to add...

Then use whatever you have--big ball penis hammer works,it just isn't as easy to get into small areas..

I wonder if GM still lists that gasket separately ?..might have to go look in my old parts catalog and see if there's a part number listed for it..

It's listed, but discontinued. Some of the cross referenced aftermarket gaskets I found were also discontinued. Which is odd, because they are still in the kits.

The older one can still be found.

I’ve always just made my own from gasket paper. Many places I went to couldn’t get the premade gaskets. Would be nice to have a source if it’s only a few bucks. Would save time.

I contacted Midwest trans, they don't have them.

The adapter to transfer case gasket is $2.92, the trans to adapter one even at $3-4 would be worth it.

Figure it wouldn't hurt to follow up, since I found I still had an earlier 465/205 adapter (figure 8 pattern) to compare to my round pattern 465/241 adapter.

As far as I can tell (using a dial caliper with bad dial, so not uber precise, but close enough I was comfortable with the results) the depth of the machining on the adapter for the bearing on the 465 did not change between the two, at least not more than I would expect with production tolerance. Unless the 465 rear bearing snap ring position changed, which I highly doubt, as I was told by another shop as I tried to source the thin gasket, they all need the thick gasket between the trans and adapter. Which are readily available.
