Thanks to the overwhelming positive response to my other thread on daily driving the sm465, I plan on using it in my build. Here's the specs: 5.3/sm465/np205, 3.42 gears, 10 bolts, approx 3500 lb truck on probably 33 maybe 35 inch tires.

Now looking at the offroad aspect, that puts my crawl ratio: 6.55x3.42x1.98 at about 44 to 1. :doah:

Lets hear what everyone else is running for comparisons.

I want to have enough gearing to pop the clutch in first and not worry about it. How does your current crawl ratio have an effect on this? especially on hills?

How many of you are forced to use the throttle and three foot it?

63:1 I think (if I'm doing the math correctly) 465/205/4.88's with 37's.

I don't hit the rocks at all (none around here) only bogging and trials, along with DD'ing. If I put it in 4lo and creeper....I can't hold the truck back with the brakes. I've got disc's all the way around too.

When I had a SM465 my CR was 58:1. SM465, 205, 4.56's and 39.5's. I never had to 3 foot it, but I was running a 6.2 diesel. 44:1 isn't terrible, I think you'll find it's plenty of gear and quite manageable off road.
