This is for a friend. He wants to put a SM465 tranny in a '88 Chevy that has the IFS so the diff is on the driver side. He says it has a 700-4r & np208 in it now. So the question is will the driver side yolked 208 in the '88 bolt up to the SM465? Any help would be great!

Thanks- John

The short answer is no. If the truck has a 700 in it then the t-case's input will be 27 splines. Early 4wd 465's had 10 spline outputs, while the later ones were 32 spline. 208's for use behind SM465's had 32 spline inputs, as did the 241. AFAIK 10 spline inputs were only on 205's.

The options are to get a 32-spline input DD 208 or 241, or get a 32 spline 208 input gear and replace the 27 spline input in his current t-case. In either case he needs a 32 spline output 465 with a 208/241 adapter.

Thanks for the info! I'll pass it along, I'm sure he'll be able to find the proper parts & peices as he works in a scrapyard. Thanks again!
