I've got a round pattern SM465 / 205 in my K30 and for some reason yesterday I lost the ability to shift into the right side of the "H-pattern" of the gears (3, 4, and R)... I'm assuming it has something to do with the shift rails, but I've never had one apart so I don't know :dunno: I have two shifter shafts (both with the infamous cracked spot welds) and neither work so I'm assuming it isn't shaft.

Obviously, I'd rather not have to pull the tranny out, but I'm guessing that'll be the case. :doah: Anyone run into this or have any suggestions? Tranny was running fine up to this point...

Thanks for any help!

If the "hump" in your floor is unboltable, I rhink you can take the top of the tranny off and look at the shifter forks, after removing the hump.. ,they are in the top cover...the shifter needs to come out first--your supposed to shift it halfway into reverse in order to yank the shifter out,but if you cant ,I think it'll still come out but with more diffuculty..

You dont have to remove the floor or the top of the tranny to check it. Pull the boot and pop the shifter out. Theres a ring in the top of the neck on top of the tranny, push it down and twist. Then the shifter will come out. The top of the forks will be in that hole. You can then reset them to neutral independently with a screw driver and reinstall your shifter.

Yeah, my doghouse isn't the unboltable style (I think those were only in older cabs?). I'm able to get the shifter in and out... not sure what I'm looking for while moving / adjusting with a screwdriver.

This shows some good details, I'm just not sure what to push with the screwdriver. Worse case, I drop the tranny and pull cover...

I went out and messed with it again a little today and same scenario (was hoping it magically fixed itself overnight ) I have 1st and 2nd only. Weird thing is that I physically can't get the shifter to go to right side at all :dunno: I can't even get close to where reverse is.

damn manchild that is a good manual.im savin it.when you look in to the hole where the shifter came out,it should have shifter rails that slide in and out to put the gears in the right spot.with a long screwdriver you should be able to put the shift rail in line and the shift spot in the center where the shifter goes into the rails to get neutral.so you have low and 1st gear but it wont slide into 2 3 or reverse.once you have the shifter out you can see if you can move the shift rails to those gears and maybe see something blocking them from moving into gear.if your gear oil hasnt been changed in a while that may be that its not giving enough lube to move the gears correctly.
