Trans shifted well out of the truck, then I took the top cover off to inspect and reseal it. Now the trans is in the truck (apparently I forgot to check if it would shift after I messed with it :doah:) and it won't go into any gear. It sort of feels like it's in neutral but it won't go far enough to the right to hit the spring for reverse.

So, from searching, sounds like the shift rails aren't lined up even though the shifter will go into the trans. Any advice/hints on how to fix this? It's not easy to just look down the hole, things are kinda cramped.

I'm assuming you got reverse fork in the right spot when you re-installed the top cover?

If so, if you remove the shifter itself and look in the hole with a light you'll see what looks like a row of small blocks inside. There is a top row and a bottom row... Use a screwdriver to push them all either up or down so there is a clear path down the middle for the end of the shifter. Re-install the shifter and check...it should then be good.

Thanks Rene, I'll try it.

I do remember having to line up the forks when putting the cover back on so I think I'm ok there, otherwise I'll have to pull the cover again.

Just fyi, when R&I'ing the top cover it needs to be half in /half out of reverse for things to line up.

My sm465 has same problem. Replaced slave cylinder and topped off fluid. Worked great for a few drives, now stuck again. Trans will shift into gears when motor not running. Start it up and try to shift… nothing.

Was this a good running 4spd in this same Blazer prior to replacing the slave? If so, the hydraulic system is self adjusting so if all the air is completely bled out it could be the clutch itself. Does it make any difference if you pump the clutch pedal and then try to shift?

I’m going to tell you to bleed the slave again
