I have a small block I am trying to find out some more info on. I ran the block casting #'s (14093638) which tells me it's an 87-95 350 , roller or flat tappet, 2 or 4 bolt main and 1 peice rear main seal. Well it is a roller motor, I will find out tomorrow if it's 2 or 4 bolt when I finish pulling it out.
My question is what would this have likely been in originally? Would this be a LT1 , it is obviuosly pre-vortec, I am going to sell this and I would like to know exactly what I have so I can advertise it accordingly.

Oh, the heads are another mystery so far, they are not GM , they are cast iron, angled plug, and have what I believe to be the world products logo but no model name. Thanks in advance.

If it is a roller cam motor it was originally in a car. Should have 2 bolt mains.
If the heads are world with angled plugs they are most likely sportsman 2 heads.
The Sr heads were all straight plug as far as I know. I
it may be a 1992 or up LT1, or L98 block, or a car L05. It could even be a truck L05 engine with a roller Cam instaled.
The only way to tell for sure what it came out of. Is to run the engine suffix code located on a pad in the right front of the engine block. It will have part of the original VIN code indicating what the engine was originally installed in. The block casting # really does not tell you much.
You may be able to ID the engine here:http://www.nastyz28.com/chevy-engine-code-stampings.php

PS If the engine has been decked it usually wipes out the suffix code and you are SOL.

Now to find the engine suffix code will I need to remove the head? I am thinking the sportsman's also, I could not find any angle plug s/r's or torquer's. From what I can tell the heads should have a #on the end, so once I pull of the acessories I should be able to check. I will get a better look at things once I pull it out in the morning.

yeah the code you need is usually behind the Alt. You dont have to pull the head to see it. The pad sticks out from the front of the engine.

the top of the block (where the heads bolt down over the cylinders) has been re-cut flat which which essentially lowers the heads on the block among other things. basicly it's like having a brake rotor turned (made flat again) but on the block and obviuosly done by a different method:crazy:

thanks for the quick response Thunder!
