Hi, im starting with a small block chevy 350 engine. im looking to do a little more than a mild build....383+ ci, heads, cam, intake man, carb, headers . My goal is a low RPM torque engine. About $5k for a budget. Any thoughts ?

I think i'll stay with the stock system, how much can a stock system handle in gph?

are you limited to a small block? mild build 454=500 tq all day

Stock vortec heads on a 383 with a mild cam gives 400+tq pretty easy. If you want about 450 it would be best to go big block in my opinion.

Cool video, but gives me a sadface about the HT383. Might need to cam it up some day.

5k is a great budget (wish I could convince my wife of the same!), don't limit yourself to the 350 you have. There are lots of options and opinions out there, I personally would look at a cummins 6bt or 4bt... but if you want to stick with a gasser, the newer gen small blocks are awesome (5.3 or 6.0) and will bolt up to your current drivetrain pretty easy.

Again, 5k opens you up to a bunch of options!

I built my 454 in my car for almost half your budget. Guessing it's around 350-375 horse, not sure on the torque but sure it's over 400. Had block bored, all parts resized, turned, whatever needed to be done. New pistons, ARP rod bolts, mild cam, everything balanced.

A small block would be even less. With that budget you could go diesel, or LS with acc's and fuel system.

You can get a rebuilt 383 stroker tbi off ebay for under 3000. I have no personal expierence with the guy but tbichips.com recommends him and I have heard alot of good about tbichips.com. If i decide to not rebuild my motor myself I may go with one of these. May be worth checking it out. Good luck!
