so i purchaced my burb with a 454 and a healthy cam in it of unknown size. i only get about 10 inches vac out of it and i have the idle turned up a bit so it wont die in gear (th400). still when, getting off the gas or simply puttsing around in parking lots and what not, i doesn't like to idle well and consequently i loose my vac assist for my brakes or it dies and or both. not fun with a big burb. it also has a edlepuke 750 in it and i put the lightest springs in there (which really helped) still, not too stoked about the crappy idle and the truck is serving full time work truck duty now. oh, and i know that i do have the 049 heads and 1.72 roller rockers. otherwise the rest is a mystery

soooo, i also have purchased a hydroboost set up for it. which might help the braking issues, but not the stalling and poor idle. should i go for like a 500-1000 overstall converter? how are those for daily driving? or should i do a cam swap to something i know would work at a lower rpm range and stock stall speed...

at all other rpms it runs like a beast and has tons of power :D thanks in advance,

jason

I would spend a little time reading some post on the Chevelle forums , lots of info on big block streetability issues .

I would assume you can use a vacuum can for the brake issue , but for the driving issues I would pay attention to some of the guys streeting their stuff with wild cams .

Since you're using the truck as a work horse you need to swap the cam for either a stock cam or a stage one RV cam. A stall convertor will allow it to idle correctly but it won't do anything for the low vacuum reading (that is caused by the overlap of the cam) and if you have a vacuum secondary carb and only having 10 in/hg of manifold vacuum the secondaries will not work properly.

Stall convertors are for race cars and HOT street cars not 4x4's.
