I'm in the very beginning stages of building a Corvair with a Cadillac Northstar mid-engine. My question right now is do ya think that a pair of naca ducts on the rear fenders would allow enough air to flow through to cool the radiator and tranny cooler? Would scoops be better?

Discuss?

Uuummmm, I've usually seen that radiator installed in the front on v8 corvair conversions. Then it doesn't take much of a radiator if you use copper pipe to carry the coolant up and back, since the pipe dumps so much heat itself. I didn't realize you'd have enough room in the back to mount the rad and the engine/transaxle.:dunno: I guess it would depend on how big you could make the NACAs, but I think that would look 1,000,000X better than scoops on the fenders. It seems like airflow would be at a minimum trying to duct it in, but you can't really overheat a Northstar anyway, it just drops to 4 cylinders.:D

Right. Yea there'll be room I'm pretty sure. I don't have the Caddy at a place where I can compare the two to make sure but just looking at the distance from the firewall of the Northstar versus the tail end of the Corsa it looks like there'll be enough space.

I think.

The other reason as you said, NACA ducts look cool and it would be great to be able to utilize them. I'll be putting on an electric fan to draw air through the radiator.

What do you think would be the size of the hose to use? Not a big radiator on the Northstar.

Where did they put them when they did a chevy v8 conversion ?

my vote would be upfront also having done a 914 V8 conversion thats where they go alot can be said about airflow.

Folks put them up front and cut a whole in the nose. I wanna put mine in the back and maybe put the naca ducts in the trunk lid. Should be plenty of air there to be had and duct it to the back.
