SmittyBuilt Cages

the floor is 1/8th inch diamond plate. i dont do hardcore rock crawling. mostly trail riding but i still want the protection of a cage incase i do flop or roll a few times.

either one should work then, go with whatever is cheapest I say. I got the smitty via 4wpw (no shipping and they pricematched a mailorder catalog I had). Worked for me. :)

are you running a smittybuilt unit? anything else beside gussiting to make it stronger? is yours tied into the floor of the body? do you feel confident in it protecting you in the event of a rollover?

Adding in more tube in stratigic spots, gusseting, and adding more points of contact to the floor are all ways of increasing the Smittybuilt cages strength.

I run part of a Smittybuilt cage, the front down legs. It is an ok setup. The legs contour really well which I like. I added in 2 spreader bars in under the hardtop between the windshield bar and Bpillar bar. I also gusseted around the Bpillar downlegs to strengthen it. I am going to add in more tube very soon to do all the things I mentioned to make the cage stronger.

Right now my cage is 6 point, I want at least 10 pt. with good gusseting and triangulation. I have already flopped my truck once (very softly) and it landed on the cage. The cage was fine but now that I have used the cage once offroad I know it is going to happen again so I want a cage that is going to take a pretty violent rollover and survive.

One of the things I am most worried about is a high speed roll on the highway. I want to make sure that the cage will protect me very well for something like that should it happen. As my cage sits right now it does great for the type of rolls I see while offroading here in AZ, and is satisfactory for a highspeed roll. I want more though.

Anything is better then nothing though. So get something in there and then add to it later if you need too.

hey jekbrown...let me know how much you want for that cage, i'm in nor cal and vist the eugene area in oregon often, maybe we can meet somewhere?

Anyone use any parts of the Smittybilt cages for their burb? Do you think the roll bar would fit right behind the 2nd seat, or would it hit the wheel wells wrong? It sounds like it would be a good start for a little more piece of mind.
