I will be installing my BB next week and was hopeful in retaining my smog legal status here in california. If not she will be the official trailer queen...Was wondering if anyone has come across any except the Hedmann ones..

First off, you'll need to pay a visit to your local referee station after your swap is finished since a BBC was never offered in a K5. I can also tell you that the engine must be at least the same year as your K5 or newer and must retain all of your K5's emission equipment and also anything that the donor engine originally had that your K5 did not.

I've seen a guy pass with a totally rotten exhaust. No one knew and about 90% of the exhaust wasn't even going down the pipe

Not in this state. It will fail first because of the BBC unless he visits the referee and gets a new tag for his swap and also a large enough exhuast leak will dilute the smog machine and fail it instantly.

Yes that was my thought, but was hoping maybe I would find a test center that isn't very car savvy and wouldn't know it wasn't offered. Oh well maybe a trailer queen she will be

Hedmann makes a smog kit for headers for like $30. It fits multiple headers. I did it on mine. Its pretty easy to do. Just need a pdrill and a welder. Or an exhuast shop will do it for about $10. But before you do that I would look into the Legal stuff first.
