gotta question for you gents.
the smog pump on an 81, is there anyway to turn that into a little air compressor to fill up a tank? i know my yota buddy said there was a way to do that on his yota so it got me thinkin.

any one with any links or insight, much appreciated.

Don't let your buddy work on your truck..........

As far as I know, all those pumps are low pressure volume pumps that use vanes instead of pistons to move the air.

Might make a good personal fan, but if it can produce over about 5 pounds pressure I would be surprised.

At least you weren't asking to use it as a supercharger.....

I've seen them used on go-kart engines as a blower....whether it increases HP enough to offset the amount the pump robs from the engine to make the boost is debateable though!.....

I think a York compressor is the best option for onboard air...seen a few guys adapt an old 2 cylinder cast iron compressor from a 110V unit to their engines too,but they had to rig up a v-belt idler pulley so it they can remove the belt when its not needed...they also re-used the tank and some of the plumbing like the safety pressure releif valve..

fyi orignal poster your in cali you need that to pass smog dont you ? ? ?

or is this a trailer only off road buggy build ?

as said not going to work for your needs . bust get a bracket kit and drop on a york and have a REAL compressor that moves 10cfm of air . :thumb:
