Fired up the big block for the first time since it has been in the truck yesterday. It ran well, there was no noises other than usual. A little smoke was emanating from the bell housing. It was a light smoke, no noise or smell that I could tell. This is a used clutch pulled from another truck, a centerforce with just a few hundred miles on it. I am wondering if its just from sitting for a few months, maybe it got some oil on it or something? I would let it run for a while to see if it goes away, but my wiring harness is having issues, and if I let it run too long I am fairly certain the harness will catch fire. Does anyone have any questions / comments / concerns?

First time firing it up... everything usually smokes a little until all your oily finger prints burn off!

Did you pinch some wires between the engine and bellhousing? Would account for both problems.

There is nothing inside the bellhousing that should ever get hot enough to smoke unless you've been slipping the crap out of the clutch.

Could it be smoke from the paint on new headers?

Not possible to have pinched anything between the bell housing and the engine, i assembled it all in my garage where there were no wires in site. But its all fine now, it was probably just a little oil that dripped down in there, she is running great now, shifts perfectly and no more smoke.
