After my last 4x4 outing the front end was making some noise while turning the wheel. Creaky crunchy noises. Finally got time to jack it up and start checking things over.

With the front axle supported on stands, no weight on the tires, it was real hard to grab a tire and turn it by hand left to right. I even grabbed the steering wheel and turned it. Still takes some good effort via the steering wheel to turn the tires (engine off). So I disconnected the drag link (stock push pull steering) and I can grab the tires and turn them by hand really easy. Still plenty of effort to turn the steering wheel with drag link disco'd. Pretty sure the steering box is all done?

I would say so. A good box will allow the steering wheel to be turned with little resistance with wheels off the ground. You said there's resistance even with drag link removed? That's not a good sign. I would replace or flush the pump as well as the lines, as any shavings from the box would have traveled there. I hate changing steering boxes more than most things, good luck man.

I have a stock push-pull 0-ring style steering box. Its been in the garage and off the truck for a few years but it was fairly tight and had no leaks. You can have it. I,m in Mass near Newburyport if you want it. Or if you cover the shipping $$ I'll send it.

DUDE!!! That's awesome! It'll be worth the ride to come get it. Will be sending a PM.

Time for hydro assist :whistle::D

Actually... time for X-over and hydro assist. No funds to upgrade right now though. Just need to fix it and be driveable right now. I don't even use the truck that much these days, just sits in the garage. But when I need it for dump runs, stuff that won't fit into the wagon, Home Depot lumber for the house runs, it's nice to have available. Only got out wheeling twice this year, money has been tight. Nice to see the brotherhood lookin out!

Good call. I guess I thought you already had x over for some reason. Too many rigs to keep track of :D

Nope, been wheeling it with the push/pull. And it's worked OK up until.... now. Did you catch the vid I posted (somewhere) of my truck being stuck going up hill and between a couple trees, where my pass quarter got all pushed in? You can hear the steering pump fighting to turn the wheels. Steering was working fine before that outing. :doah: I certainly found the deficiencies of the push/pull steering system that day. Truck would be all flexed out, spotters telling me to turn the wheel, the box was at it's turning limit but the short drag link had the wheels pointing nearly straight ahead. Twas a challenging day.

No i dont think i did. My phone doesnt do vids so i miss alot of them if im not on a computer. Which im not 90% of the time.

New job, then new phone :waytogo: its weird though cuz i can go on youtube and watch vids, but the embeded vids dont even show up on my screen. Just a big white space, no red x or anything. :dunno: whatever fock it :D
