i'm thinking of getting these.. buy 1 get 1 free.... $110 for a pair of 12"s

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575P1S412/Rockford-Fosgate-P1S412.html?showAll=N&tp=111

really a little down the priority list, but i am starting to set up the sub boxes dimensions, config, etc..... gonna run 1 on either side of the bed...

i think i can get the needed enclosure volume for 12"s.......

3 questions....

big difference between 10"s and 12"s? because they have those in 10" for a $100 a pair too....

how much better are downfiring boxes? then say having them facing each other on the sides of the bed?

and, should I just do sealed boxes? or can I really benefit from a ported box? ease of build and weather/offroad, etc are what i'm thinking of...

noobie education appreciated!!! :D:bow::haha::D

scratch the 12"s... i'd have to go 10"s..... I can create the volume needed, but not a suitably sized mounting surface...

To my knowledge .. cough laugh .. the main difference in 10-12 is the 12 allows for a slightly lower frequency response , giving you a lower bottom end . the 12 require more volume vs the 10. Sealed enclosures will give you a tighter responce but requires more volume to push the same sound levels as a ported box . Its really a prefrence to the listener and the application. I went with a sealed 10 in and like the results .

a sealed enclosure would last you much longer. If you are going to stay with an open top , maybe think about a marine version of a sub . and then line-x/als the enclosure to stay waterproof.

I am concidering an alpine marine for my k5... havent decided yet.

thanks..... I'm thinking of doing those 10's... seems like a pretty cheap price... to me anyway...

I'm definitely gonna do sealed... and weatherproof isn't an issue for the enclosure, it's fiberglass.... the speaker, for now i can run these cuz they're cheap... at some point, i should be able to get something nice thru work that is marine...

12s get louder and lower, 10s take up less space and sound more clean. Rockford makes a good product, for that price I'd def go for it. If you put one on each side of the bed and they aim at each other you need to make one suck in (reverse polarity on speaker wires) and one push out so they don't clash with each other...

excellent info, thanks! :D

well, i've gotta wait a week and a 1/2 to get these.. hopefully they;ll still have the deal...

I have a pair of these subs but 10" not 12" in sealed downfire boxes in my dd running on a 200w amp. I think you will be more than happy with the 10s, mine will get just as loud and sound cleaner on less power than most of the other local setups that I have heard.
