It's an IM5100. Got it used.

Bought a rebuild kit for it from Snap-On and it still won't take the lugs off a wheel:mad: OK, so it will take about half of 'em off.

When I put the kit in everything looked good. The old parts didn't look that bad either.

IIRC I should feed it 90psi so that is what it is set at. 1/4" line, 20 gallon tank.

I got no idea what's wrong

Well, 90psi is a little light IMHO. I run my shop compressor at 135psi and service truck at 140psi. The low air pressure could be your problem.

All guns are rated at 90psi so that shouldn't be the issue. What did the rebuild kit consist of? Seals and vanes? Check all the inside out for damage?

Seals, O-rings, vanes, a gasket or two. I thought I read somewhere psi was supposed to be 90:confused: I'll run it up to 120 and see what happens.

more PSI will make it more powerful but not last as long. I always run over 90 PSI. However the "factory recommended" pressure is 90PSI, and that is what it is rated at. It should not be THAT week at 90 PSI, unless the lugnuts are WAY too tight.

probably just busy with work. I know there are times I just don't have time for crap between paperwork and deliveries. And his route is a lot more established than mine is.

when you say air wrench, do you mean impact wrench, or air ratchet? If you are trying to take off lug nuts with an air ratchet, you are using the wrong tool for the job.

Yeah I know, but my point was that if he is actually running it at 90psi that could be his problem. Pretty much everything is rated at 90psi, but at an actuall 90psi they don't have much power compared to 130psi or so.

But, I'd agree, if it really is as weak as it sounds, it could be in the gun.

The 1/4" air line is the problem. Sure you may have 90 psi of air, but with the 1/4" line you have no volume of air, which is what you really need to run an impact wrench.

Switch to a 3/8" line and fittings and you should see a big improvement.

That and the fact he's using a small compressor probably has alot to do with it.
