It looks like I am about to aquire a Snap-on toolbox but the problem is the box is locked up with the barrel lock style locks. What is the best way to get the box open without destroying something so I can change the locks?

Will Snap-on provide new keys?

Its a long story on how I am aquireing a locked Snappy box but its all legal. Basically my cousin owes my parents money and she refuses to pay it and her Snap-on toolbox is at my parents house so they are going to sell it to me for the money that she owes. My cousin has the keys and is basically disowned from the family so I am not going to be able to get the keys.

Theres gonna be a number on the lock face. give it to the snapon dealer to order new keys. I think.

You may want to have a Snap-On dealer run the serial number on that box. If she won't pay her own family, she may well not have paid Snap-On. And if you go to trade that box or anything later on, it could create a pickle for you.

Just a heads up on that.

I am pretty sure that she paided her tool bill off already. The family falling out happened very recently. Plus I am just a weekend mechanic so I probably would never get rid of the box anyway. The Snappy box she had is ALOT nicer then my Craftsman $300 box. :D

Thanks for the heads up. I will see if there is any numbers on the locks when I get back to town and try and order a new set of keys for the box. Thanks

Grab the tumbler with channel locks and turn. It will damage the lock by forcing it but once it is open you can get it replaced.

If you get the number and don't have access to a snap on dealer, let me know, I see one every weds, and I can have him order keys for you if you need.

8 bucks for a new key.

but once opened i would change the lock out for diffrent tumbler. so she dont ever get a chance to get her stuff back.

Numbers are on the inside and with it being locked it would be hard to get them. Those style locks are cheap and at all the hardware stores.

the numbers are definately on the oustide of the newer style snap-on boxes, not the inside. if you get the numbers off the snap-on guy can order new ones. they do take a while to come in, but the lock set for my box ended up costing me about $80 for all three and i wish i had just waited because those locks were a royal pita to get off.

you should also look into the keyless entry you can get. i love mine :D
