Snap On vs Craftsman vs Matco

It is really easy to spend several months worth of pay in just a few minutes when that beautiful truck comes around once a week.

When I was turning wrenches, the Matco guy's name that came around was Jerry and the Snap On guy's name was Tom. :haha: Each one of them knew that if I bought a lot of $hit on their truck, I'd have no money for the other. So, several times I'd get the "today, just for you , everything on the truck is 20% off". It was great. However, there were a few weeks that seriously ALL of my paycheck was going to the toolman. :doah: Lucky for me, I had enough beer to get by and a girlfriend that I could mooch off of.

Now, the only Snap On or Matco tools that I'll buy are off e-bay unless I really need it right now and then I'll call the truck. Speaking of which, I just got these in the mail today. I just opened them from the plastic and I'm chomping at the bit to get them dirty. I paid just over $100. Not too bad I'd say.

Craftsman ratchets are fine if you don't mind your knuckles bleeding all the time. Sure, they warranty the broken ratchet, but do they warranty your hands?

craftsman works fine for a lot of things. i use a 1/4 ratchet day in day out, so i needed something good. i bought a snap on. but i did not pay the rediculous truck price. i went on ebay and found one brand new that was half the price. that is the only place i will buy snap on. i probably have around a thousand dollars worth of snap on body hammers, dollys, and spoons. but i found them all on ebay and probably payed around $200. most of were brand new.

I got a small Snap-On box, its similar to one of those 200peice mechanics sets you get from Sears. I was in high school going to a vocational school for auto. I payed $800 for my set and without my discount it would have been around $2000. I wouldnt trade the tools for anything, you get what you pay for plain and simple.

And, if i plan on buying any more tools in the near future, i have a friend who gets i think %50 off Matco tools because he's a student:saweet: :woot: He has to order online but not a big deal, i can get it sent to my house. Pretty sweet deal cept that i have no money for any more tools.

Craftsman's no questions asked free replacement is very attractive, and Sears are all over the place. I have too go with Craftsman.

walk in wearing a shop uniform. suddenly, their "no questions" warranty turns into a "20 questions" warranty. you're not supposed to use them for anything other than home use.

if you're using HF tools to make a living, i hope you like ramen noodles. :doah:

i cant say much for Matco, as i dont care for my Matco guy, so i dont buy his stuff. Snap On is WAY overpriced. just priced out a box identical to my Snap On, but made by Mac, less than half of what i paid for Snap On. i buy all of my tools through either Mac or Craftsman. and i keep a tshirt in the truck just in case i break something Craftsman. throw it on, "i work construction", and they replace it no questions asked. :haha:
