Lookin to possibly pick up a used snow plow for my Blazer. Any recommendations? Will the mounting effect my ground clearance much for off-roading when the plow is off???
Although the fancier plows are easier to use, I sugest a small light plow. They tend to beat the crap out of your rig. So staying small and light will be better. I would still do some minor mods to the frame to help beef it up.
EDIT: so far the lightest I can find is a 6' wide polycarbonate blade for small SUVs and its STILL close to 300lbs on the front of your rig. AND its around $1200 new still.
i work on cars/trucks all day my self. i have seen lots of mounts and plows . i my self found a old school conventional mount live hydrolic engine belt driven setup for my k30. i think i have the most clearence and hd setup out there.
its a fisher plow. ya it weighs in at 725-750 for the blade/aframe. but its build rock soild. and the 4" lift and 35" tires i have on the truck. keeps the mount at or above the center line of the axle.
the other stuff is o.k. but no thanks. electric stuff is cool till it kills the alt/batt. then lower plow frames suck.
if you want to see pics search my user name. or ask for pics. i will send them to you.
p.s. i cant see my taller fisher plow all the way up with my size lift and tires. it kind of sucks.
where I used to work we had a Meyer. I loved it for pushing snow. 4 way electric control but. When you hit it the volts on ur gauge would peg the low side out
the plow frame also hung WAY low on it. It wasnt uncommon to catch it on mud and grass if you were in a bumper spot with it.
haha yeah, maybe I'm gettin my self in over my head... I just wanted to make some quick cash but If I'm ganna be spending over $1000 i dont know If I wanna do it. I'll just wait a few years and get a beater truck to plow with, and save my blazer for a TRAZER conversion!
Look around. You could buy my neighbor's flatbed 70 something K10 plowtruck for less than $1000. It's just old. Everything is there and works...just old and worn. Some TLC and it'd be good to go but everyone around here wants heated leather seats in their plowtruck now.
Granted I only do my driveway but my "plowtruck" is a 20 something year old Wheel Horse tractor with a 3' or so wide blower on the front. Takes me at least an hour to do my driveway and I'm usually coated with snow by the time I'm done.
When I hear people complain about their plow trucks not having heated seats or a big enough cup holder I laugh.
That said when someone offered me a snow plow and equipment for Big Ugly I laughed in their face. Yeah right...ruin my truck plowing snow? HAH!
