Well, i tried taking my windshield out and at first i wasnt prying in the right areas and i cracked it when i was rounding one of the corners :doah: then i decided to try on the inside (at this point just trying to find the easiest way to get it out since it was wrecked) and i used a flat head screw driver to sort of tuck the weatherstripping around the lip that hold it in and i made my way around 3 sides of the windshield (leaving the bottom) without any more problems and then it came right out...i wish i would have known to do it that way from the start. But oh well i knew it was a risk going into it. So anyway where do i go from here, i know ive seen some of you have replaced yours, where have you gone to have it done? and what kind of price am i looking at? I already have the surface prepped and and i already have a seal. literally just need the windshield and a safe install...

Wow, I have locals that will install a new w/s for less than 200$....a used one of your own for $50....check around and talk w/ some bodyshops, most of the time they will know someone who does sidework!

And metal tools and glass don't work well together at all.
the windshields I've taken out have come pretty easily by pressure from the inside, Using 2 people, start on the drivers side, peel the gasket away from the glass in the middle and work your way down to the corner, then up to the corner, then when the glass starts coming out of the gasket, just push evenly top and bottom across the width of the windshield, til you get to a point where you can pull it free from the gasket.

yea it was way easier than i thought, im still kicking myself.

I broke mine doing the same thing....I was mad at first because I was trying to save the original 38 year old glass....but now with the new one installed, it sure looks clean...the old one would have to have been polished a lot....not sure I would have ever got it clean...

LOL--the windshield on my 71 GMC I had up until 1995 or so,was so cloudy around the edges a good 3" you couldn't see thru it,it looked like a stripe was painted all around the edge of it!.........I tried taking a few windsheilds out of my K5's and never once succedded in getting them out without busting them, and only one used replacement one went back in without cracking too...when I worked at a junkyard I'd estimate 8 out of ten old "good" widsheilds came out without breaking, even if you were extremely careful...only ones I got out intact were ones I removed on a hot summer day when it was 90 in the blazing sun...any we attempted to remove in cold weather were almost sure to crack.....................................................................................................................I used to call a freind who worked in auto body all his life to install a used windsheild in my trucks..he was since passed away though....so I keep glass coverage, fire & theft on my insurance now,in case I get a window busted....I'd attempt replacing a rear window or door glass, but windsheilds I leave to the pros...too easy to bust one..:doah:
