It was a local car show fundraiser at the church but it was my first time to be in a car show. I was really curious to see how the Blazer would be received...
I had put the pizza cutters back on it with the full hubcaps because I thought that gave it a more antique look...and I do think it does. I got several compliments, several older guys came up to look at it and told stories of how they owned one, some bought them new back in 1973.
When I showed them the photos of how it all got done and that it was my first time restoring anything and that I did with instruction from CK5 / Paul, they just couldn't believe it. I think they literally thought I was joking.
Now...that said, what I did find out was that my Blazer is as good as 90% of the cars that were there....it's the other 10% that trailer their cars in and have 30,000 dollar paint jobs that win these things.
I was very pleased that many gentlemen came up and told me that they thought I had the best truck on the lot and that mine was the the most accurate to stock truck that they had seen in a while and that they had seen no Blazers in quite a while. Several people voted for my Blazer.
I did not win though...all the trophies went to custom trucks that were slammed low and looked like what you would see Foose or Kendig do.
The truck that won was a Dodge that was all fiberglass body with hood that clip that opened forward. Three Camaros and a Corvette took the highest honors.
I don't think I will go to car shows other than those that have a stock factory class. I can't compete with those guys that full on custom every inch of the thing.
