Are all pinion shims the same? Where's a good place to get them?
Now here's what happen for those of you that wanna read.....
Ok I was really sick of working my k5 so close to house and edge of concrete. So I was like screw this I'm putting tires on and moveing it. And totally forgot I just had the front pinion yoke sitting on the shaft with no nut (waiting on seal and new dust guard) and left one of my hubs locked in(has a spool) . so when I pulled it out of the way......bam! Pinion sucks up into houseing and trashes the inner shim (think that's what it is) big washer looking thing......so I guess it's time for me to try to do my first Dana 60 pinion gear.....you see the brownish washer down in there. That's what's trashed. Is that the shim???IMG_20151017_201932512.jpg IMG_20151017_202040612.jpg IMG_20151017_201932512.jpg IMG_20151017_202040612.jpg

Not all shims are the same, they come in varying thicknesses.

That might be the oil slinger that's chewed up, much easier fix. Need to get it out to see what it is. If it's a shim, you'll probably have to buy a small assortment pack, measure the bad one and replace with the same.

:doah: I saw this and my first thought was about my PM asking for flex pics. I hope you didnt jump in it to back it up a ramp. Oh, and if being left unmovable, post-it's on the steering wheel.....FTW......

Can I find the pack at a orielys? Or order from a shop? All d60s the same or do I need to find pack for Chevy d60 front specific? Hopefully it's a easy fix.

Oh, and if being left unmovable, post-it's on the steering wheel for FTW......

standard practice on boats to "tag" the steering wheel with a "DO NOT START!" note, when you have something apart on the overnight or similar....

We do it with wrecked cars all the time, write on the driver window with a grease pen or sharpie, NO OIL or whatever

Driven off twice with the battery tender hooked up to the truck. Thing will sit for months at a time, so I don't think its my fault lol.

Now have a red key tag that goes on the key ring if there is a reason not to just hop in and drive away.

For some reason I just pictured the military
(remove before flight) tag.

I've driven off a few times with my block heater plugged in...:doah:..
Luckily the extention cord pulled apart first...
