I'm going on a trip tomorrow. The transfer case has a small drip out of the yoke vent hole, so I decided to check fluid level.

I take the cap off, stick my finger in, and it's dry down below cap level, as far as I could reach. Crap..

So, I leave the cap off, and go inside to get a quart of ATF. When I come back out, fluid is running out like it's slightly over full! Reach my finger in, and it's full right to the top.

There is no way that can happen, right? I must be losing my mind. I just put the cap back on and am going to run it.

Uuhhhhhh, I have no answer....
This is still the SM465, correct?
So no transfer of fluid from the trans?

Yeah, 465/208.

I don't think so, the stuff running out looked just like ATF.

I could have sworn my finger was bone dry, I thought I was in big trouble. Maybe cause my hands were dirty I couldn't tell.

I assume that you would know when your finger is wet.....
But I can't explain why it would do that.
However, if it's good, got for it!

You know own that you are going to go pull the plug tonight, or in the morning anyway....
Lol!

I was thinking, gear oil is heavier, maybe when I pulled the cap off oil flowed in from the trans and filled the bottom of the T case?

I dunno. Since my T leaks already it's not like it's air tight.

I pretty much always check diff and Tcase levels before going anywhere significant. Haven't checked the trans though.

But both of them have vents, so....
And the seal between them would have to be in an odd way to do that , correct?

Yeah, it doesn't really make sense. I must have just been mistaken the first time. Which is good news actually.

Did you drive it a little before and maybe fluid was stuck up in the top side and when you got back it was draining back down?

Get a grip.....you're going nuts. Deal with it. It happens. And we're here to help. You'll be just fine. Honest :screwy:
