Ive been hearing this knocking sound on my 86 k5. The frequency of the tapping sound increases w/ speed. I thought it was coming from the driver front tire. I drove slow in a parking lot to see if I could hear it. The odd thing is that it seems to go away when u turn the wheel a little to the left. I jacked up that side of the truck and spun the wheel but didnt hear anything. What could this be?

Edit: I did just put on a new PS pump and lines. Could this be related to it?

could be exhuast manifold my ol mans 2000 gmc serria has starng sound like that due to a bad manifold

Since the noise is in relation to wheel speed I figured it has to be something in the steering or wheel somewheres. Ive noticed that when u step on the brakes the noise goes away. Hmmm this is really puzzling, I'm gonna go out and see if I can find anything.

On the Porsche I had a set of brake pads rattle like this. It could also be a CV joint if they have them on the front of these trucks; the rears on the porsche would make a steady clicking noise.

I feel like a dumbass. The lugnuts were loose on the front. I guess that will teach me to go over others work. My buddy was supposed to put the tire on while I started workin on the back of the truck when I was putting the lift on.

I'm sure we've all done something similar......or haven't touched the vehicle at all. My best bone head move was not latching a hood down. I was setting the headlights on my daughters Grand Am, which had to be done with the hood up, and I just put the hood down to get in the car to check the view from the drivers seat, and then decided to take it for a ride on the road to check it out..........about 30mph WHAM....DUMBA$$

174$ later back in business with a new windshield, and a mangled hood.

My brother did the hood thing in the '76 912E in my avatar (it is really a dark green, I PS'd it orange :)). To this day it stands as the only body damage on that car, where the corners of the hood dug into the panel between the windshield and hood. Suprisingly the windshield held up! As for lug nuts, I've done that on my old 944 before...luckily I caught it after about 1/4 mile.

Just be glad you checked it before it fell off.

Well lets see. I've had a CJ hood (good thing it was fiberglass). 4 vehicles lugs not tight. And more craftsman wrenches than I care to talk about. Oh and a File and don't forget about a master cylinder and the 710 cap.
