And the requirement is that it mounts to the passenger seat bolt.. don't want to drill. Also needs to fit a 17" computer with a mega sized battery :wink1:

I found a couple that seem interesting.. but first a little back story.

I got to looking at GPS's.. they seem pretty expensive for what you get IMHO..

Then I found out you can get a USB GPS receiver and applications to use it with the computer.... less than $40 and it works great from all acounts. Awesome.

Then I figured.. if I can mount my laptop, I can have hooks for the stereo as well and ditch the car iPod all together and use Song Bird to control my music :D

So anyways, what do you all think? I know it'll be a quick detach type setup so it's easily removed when I park.. I'm in the truck a lot so I think it'd pay off to get the mount, GPS receiver, and connections.. finding mounts for around $100 and they seem pretty nice.

Passenger seat *bolt*? One bolt would be too flimsy methinks, unless you could get creative and mount it so the bolt simply holds the mount against the seat frame under tension. Or maybe a "U" shape that bolts to the seat bolt, and the ears of the U are snug against the seat frame?

I'm probably overthinking this, but what about something along the lines of a Tuffy console, with the mount bolted to either the front of it, or the rear? One thing I like about the Tuffy, is that the steel allows you to mount things like a rack or a fire extinguisher to it, and as long as you keep the mount bolt hole spacing the same, you can interchange mounts real easy. Not to mention, you can crawl over it without worry. :)

This mount on e-ghey would mount up good to a tuffy console.. I'm liking the simple design.

I'm going to play with it a bit and see what I can come up with, but the more I look into it, the more I like the idea..

The other thing I am going to try to rig up is a rifle rack.. something like what a police cruiser has in it, but that'll mostly only see use when I'm in the woods and need a rifle handy.

BTDT. Rifle rack was fairly easy. Could probably be a lot more complex, but it works. Burb with the extra side doors might be more practical with a horizontal mount, vertical works good in the K5. Again Tuffy to the rescue, unbolt the fire extinguisher mount, bolt the rifle rack in place. (for two, could probably make one that fit three, horizontal mounts would only be limited by the ceiling).

Before next season, need to figure out how to incorporate a thermos mount. Sick of my dads coffee container bouncing all over the floor. :)

Sounds like I have a few more excuses to get a Tuffy now.. been using the stock console to lock the iron up, but it sure isn't even close to adequate..

You could fab something up like this,

Damn Kert, you just seem to make everything. :thumb:

Kert is your one stop shop. :D

If you missed my trip last year you missed the fact I used my lap top for my GPS and road map. Here is a picture of the mount system I have set up.

I have some others and will try to find them later tonight when I get back. They show the base and how it mounts to the one seat bolt in floor. It is a police car mount. I have an extra pole and table part.

The one you show from eVilpay was one I looked at but determined it was crap. Made from electrical fittings and well just junk.

I like that, looks pretty stout. Where'd you get it?

Sorry to take a while to get back to you. I had to find the pictures.

A lady from the Great State of Utah (an actual employee of state) sent it to me for the trip. They had a large amount of them from the old police cars. She said if I paid for shipping she would give me one.

It is made by Gamber Johnson and called a Note pad III the newer Note pad IV has a lock on them.

The flat part sits on the floor and the seat bolt holds it in place.

Here the pole mounts to it.

Like I said I do have another one with out the floor part. ;)

Here is what the company I work for bought for about 1500 sales reps company wide. Most of the reps I spoke to love them and they seem to be real stout but I personally have had terrible luck with mine. If I could get all several of the mounts on some of the articulating arms to tighten down properly and keep the desk/stand from shaking around on the segmented highways it would be a perfect unit. Mine inparticular just seems focked. Not to mention that the company paid over $400/laptop stand. Don't get me wrong, it only two of the things wrked right it would be bullet proof. The other reps really like theirs though.
