So, I'm getting pretty tired of having to give the hood a love tap

Is there some secret to adjusting the latch? It looks clean and everything moves freely. The spring on the hood is strong.

The routine to open the hood is, pull the cable. Bang on the hood a few times. Say a couple blue words. Bang again and it pops up. It's making me cranky.

Its an 88 btw.

I figured as much. I'm doomed to a life of irritation. Or I need to get all zen about it.

This is one reason I'm pulling my '87 body off without unbolting the front clip.

My current truck does the same thing, I've never spent much time trying to fix it, but it's annoying. Guarantee it CAN be fixed, I'm just not willing or interested in spending the time on this truck.

same prob . but figured out pop cable . then 1 fist hand off center to pass side of the hood and a tap and she pops every time for me .

lol, yep, that's the spot. It just takes more than one whack for me. Maybe I need to eat more spinach.

most of the times if you thoroughly clean, than lube the latch, it'll go away for quite some time and open when you pull the lever..

I'll give that a try in the morning. It all seems to move really easily, but I sure could be missing something.

Mines always worked without it. But my handle broke off so I need to use channel locks... So i think its a trade.

You can bet I have read every thread related to a broken cable. I'm prepared for that eventuality.

I thought I was the only one with this issue, and just a couple light taps usually pops it

I wish it was that easy. I have to pound on it like my fist is Thor's own hammer.

Ive not messed with it, but is there some adjustment on the hinge bolts?

If not make some? Move the release thing away from the catch a bit?

Obround some holes etc.

I'll clean it good, lube it, and look closely to see if there are any alignment issues. Perhaps I'll be able to contribute something to this great forum.

In the morning, that is. When I have a little less Evan Williams under my belt. :D

My current 90 never had issues popping the hood. We'll see when the new rad support goes in if I remain lucky. Should be a matter of the latch being dead center of the catch mechanism, and the cable being able to pull the mechanism completely open.

My old 81 did have issues, but I did manage to adjust it to where it popped up normally.

I douse mine in wd 40. Keith don't you still owe me something for "fixing " your blue burbs hood?

Same experience here. When it starts "not popping" I know to spray some lube on the latch once it's open. It would be interesting to try different lubes for longevity.
