Put new AC Delco plugs, Borg-Warner cap, rotor and wires on my K5 tonight...

It runs rougher now and smells like gas:doah:

Worst part about it is, I did this in my dads garage...as my Mom and Dad left to go out to eat Dad told me to leave the keys on the seat so he could fix it for me when he got back...I proceded to tell him...I know what Im doing:rolleyes:

did you gap the plugs? and double check the wires, and the eletrick grease on the rotor/cap

The only thing that would do it is the wires. Even if you gapped the plugs half of the .045 norm it still wouldnt run that bad...

91 K5, TBI 350

gapped all the plugs to .35 like the sticker said.
Im pretty sure I got all the wires in the right spot. When I changed them I did it one at a time hooked to old cap, then changed them one by one to the new cap.

Whats the grease for and where do you put it???????

Im guessin I got a wire mixed up somewhere. It seems like only 2 cylinders are missing.

well hell 6 out of 8 aint bad:haha:

the grease transfers the heat that is made from the module to the distributor housing. It goes on the contact temonal in the middle of the rotor/cap

double check cyl 5 and 7, very easy to mix up.

Sure as hell Dad flipped those two around and it runs like a top again. Ill get some Di-Electric grease on that terminal tonight when I get home.

you'd be suprised how these motors will actually run when everythings ass backwards! good to know it was a simple fix.

reminds me of several years ago I bought a jeep grand wagneer fullsize with a 401 from a mechanic and a FSJ enthusiast. I drove that thing for 2 months exactly as I bought it from him. Then one day it back fired, so I checked it out and he had 2 cyl crossed on the wires.

WOAH NELLY! it ran GREAT after I fixed that. So great I kept tearing motor mounts on the damn thing.

In the end though the tiny rear wheel wells and the need of a HUGE lift(6 inch+3 body) to fit 35's, I just sold it rather than mess with it. Most fullsize chevys will fit 33's stock.

My buddy has an old Woody with a 360...that thing is a TANK...thank god we never got it stuck in highschool. At some point Ill probably end up getting it dirt cheap. Hacking/Tubbin the rear to fit 33s and make it a hell or high water hunting truck.
