So much rust

1989 k5 blazer
Yeah might as well beef it up and try to make it last so you can enjoy it and not just let it sit in the garage scared that it will get rusty.

Yeah that’s what I’m going with and it will all be sprayed in bedliner in the spring when I change out the quarter panels

Yeah if I remember right when I was cutting holes for my shocks in my floor there is a little bit of bracing there but not much.

You can see it here. I think I cut off the very end of it or close to it. I'm not sure that it went all the way to the wheel tub or not. Also in this one below you can see it inside the frame.

From what was left of the old floor it looked like a piece of sheet metal there but it doesn’t look to be very sturdy

For hell sakes man, what a nightmare. Commend you for doing it, you do nice work, but there’s about 20 solid, or very close to solid, western K5’s on the Denver craigslist at any given time, looking for a good home. NOTHING as hellacious as that. Straight to the crusher imho.
Hell, last week there was a free k5 here in California it was a rolling truck no running gear.
I bet it was cheaper to ship it than doing all this work.
I have done this before when I was in the middle east and there were no abundance of candidates and it still wasn't that bad.
I have sent to the crusher much cleaner trucks

That free k5 would have been a lot less work now but I know living in Chicago with the salty roads I would be doing this in a couple years down the road especially the tailgate because they don’t last too long here my uncle had a body shop replace the tailgate pan and it was lucky if it lasted 5 years before it was rotted away again. That’s why I didn’t even bother with replacing it with an aftermarket tail pan because i know it won’t last and that 2x3 I hope will be able to last 10 plus years before I have to mess with it again

I lowered those body mounts and welded a 1/4 inch solid plate there It should do the job
