I replaced the long tie rod on the Sub today and got rid of the death wobble. I took it in for an alignment hoping that would take care of it, but it did not. I then rotated the tires and did a front end inspection. Found the long end had some slop in it.

I used to have to drive on certain parts of the road to avoid the parts that would upset it, but no more! I still find myself a little weary on rough spots, but for no reason. I like driving this thing again. Feels tight.

I am so glad I've never had anything with death wobble. My K5's front end is sloppy as all get out, but I've never had a problem with it. My Tahoe's front end is in dire need of an alignment and same thing, no trouble (other than bump steer, haha)

There are two types of people with D60's Russel, those who have experienced and fought DW, and those that haven't yet. Try some unbalanced bias swampers up front. That's a great trigger...and so are soft front springs with marginal lateral stability.

It ain't fun, and when you find the cure for your particular DW it really is sweet!

Sounds like my K5 should be a prime candidate with a known broken / worn out kingpin bushings, fried lower kingpin bearings and bias ply 37" super swampers normally run at about 8 PSI... Guess I'm just lucky eh? I suppose the K5 doesn't go much faster than 80 km/h or it'll rattle your teeth out, so that probably helps a bit...

Rene, you are so right.

Russel, you are one lucky SOB to never have had to experience the DW.

I have had different reasons for it in the past, but almost everything is new in the front now, so it feels very tight. I think one tie rod end and the drag links haven't been replaced. The kingpins and bearings are both fairly new and the one tie rod end. It has a borgeson shaft and not too many miles on the steering gear along with a weld in frame kit and a ORD bolt in brace. I have had tire balance be a cause before also along with alignment.

first time i had DW in my 60 with bias ply 38" swampers . :eek1: OH MY GOD

tends to happen in the 30-40 mph range and its 1 of 2 things to stop it. most comon STOP . but if you have huge power you can power threw it i have heard.

i got lucky and was able to swap in new bushings/springs and it was gone.

As I replaced items years ago trying to fix it, every fix shifted the point it occurred. It was 25-35 for a while, then 30-40 then the worst, 40-50. Made getting on the highway hell.

and those that haven't yet.

Ain't that the truth! Every 60 I have owned has had DW at one point or another. Solutions to each have been different for every one of them.

If you're lucky, you don't have it now and when it shows up you can be assured, something has changed, worn out or come loose.

My 86 k30 CC did it one time while pulling a trailer, some scary stuff especially if you.never had it before. It hasn't done it in over a year now, but need to future out what I'm gonna do with the truck

You don't want the trouble shooting headache. Put in on the curb with the keys and signed title and ill get rid of it for you. Free of charge.
