So, now that I have it apart....

Trolling? Seriously?

I guess I should rephrase- which lunch box locker should I use? It can't be wimpy...it will see diesel torque someday.

For what you want to do and are doing, I hate to say this but either a detroit which I think you'll learn to dislike or an ARB.

I know it's a DD,towrig, mild wheeler so an ARB might actually just be the cat's ass.

No detroits...Had one in my old truggy. Loud and obnoxious. I liked it better welded. ARB too expensive, also dont want to mess with compressors and ****. And realllly don't want to deal with a full case locker....if it were a 14b, that would be one thing, gears are way easier to setup...side adjusters and crush sleeves, no press required. Dana axles with all the shims can **** off. It's becoming more and more a tow rig/dd/recovery/work truck, not so much a wheeler anymore. I have the start of a dedicated wheeler project sitting up at my gramps (383 on 'pane...wha?). Wheeling in the dually is beating the crap out of it, its too big. I'd rather have something that gets me back on the road in less than an hour.

So I guess the Lock-Right is one of the better limited slips?

In that case go with the Trutrac, gear type limit slip with no clutches to wear out. I think Zim is going that route in his BART rig.

If you get one of the carrier bearing pullers swapping shims is as easy an running an impact, and you're not changing the gear set so the pinion depth is already good. Just backlash to worry about.

I haven't checked everything available, but as far as I know there aren't any lunchbox style limited slips available, all limited slips that I know of replace the carrier.

And for limited slips, I don't think a clutch type limited slip is a good idea for offroad. On the street it slips a little on the turns and stuff and just works great, no big deal. But off road where you get a lot of times where one tire has a lot of traction and the other has almost none, if you spin the tire and slip the clutch you could potentially burn your posi up in 1 outing. Where a gear type LSD like a trutrac just spins a worm gear, so if it starts spinning wildly with 1 tire in the air on on water it doesn't really matter.

It's becoming more and more a tow rig/dd/recovery/work truck, not so much a wheeler anymore.

I have an ARB in my Suburban, wouldn't change it for anything. You don't want to spend that kind of money so a Lock-Right makes the most sense for your intended usage. Insanely easy install!

No not serious I was just breaking your balls because you asked a bunch of wheelers if you should throw a locker in your rig :thumb:
