I get into my truck to run a few errands for my job and noticed the green drip of death on the passenger side floorboard :(

so it looks like I get to do a heater core...oh joy... :)

What do you need a heater core for?:D Just pull the hoses and plug them.:D

Yep, at least no need to fix it right away with the temps the way they've been lately. Fix it closer to the end of summer before you'll need the heater and defrost.

I thought about that but didn't know if it would mess anything up...I actually have never used the heat in the 3 years I've been driving this truck :)
Ok so up under the dash I pull out the box then inside it will be the heater core and two hoses...just get a male to male coupler thats 1/2" on one end and 5/8" on the other (I heard they were different sizes...I think thats what they are)...and pop them together, bypassing the core?

If you want to bypass the heater you do not need to get under the dash. Pull the hose off the fitting at each end on the engine and replace the hose with one of the proper sized "Dorman brand" cap plugs and be done. If you were going under the dash you might as well replace the heater core and be done with a working heater.

Ok...is a "dorman" plug something that can be found at a parts store?

If your truck has the factory A/C box on the firewall, good luck swapping out the core.

Otherwise if its the plain old heater type, you can do that fairly easily.

Its those damn A/C boxes that are a PITA to get to the core. The last one I did, one went out on my K30, I took it to GM and had them do it. Fuuck changing one of those again.

Dorman is a name brand.

yeah I called Pep Boys and they said $230 for parts and labor to replace the heater core since I have that factory A/C box on the firewall...down the road it might be worth it but for now since this truck is being left at home for the first semester of college I see no reason...plus I never use the heater/defroster anyways...

I paid like $30-ish for my core from Cweer Quest along with new hoses and took it to GM. They charged me just under $100 for the whole labor thing.

NO TECH IN THE LOUNGE!!!!

:D:D:

pull the hose and just get a female/female barbed fitting at the hardware store and hose clamp them.

I have done the core in an ac truck, wasn't a breeze but wasn't that bad...

if you're dead set on changing it i'd do it myself. it's not really that hard. can't remember how long it took to replace it but it wasn't that long

oh crap... am i in the lounge?? oh nosss :haha:

Yeah sorry about the tech in the lounge...I had this in the Garage but one of the Mods moved it...poor heater cores...aparently there isn't enough tech involved with them to make it into the garage :)

Ok wait a sec...I understood Scott in that I needed to just block them off at the engine but darkshadow made it sound like I should do it under the dash like I originally said...I doubt it really matters but just wonderin'.

After going back up to re-read the first post, I would have posted this in the Garage just like you did in the first place.

Maybe I'm not seeing the point here but this thread sure sounds like Garage material to me. :dunno:

Thats what I thought...thats why I put it there in the first place :)

just do it under the hood and make sure it's not gonna hit any moving parts. tie it up with something. that's just my .02

Yeah Xumpteen on looping the hoses. My Blazer was looped when I bought it. But this is Ohio, so I had to replace the heater at some point so I did.

My apologies Avery, I moved it.

It started off sounding like a chit chat post to me, might have been the title. I'll stick it back in the Garage for you.
