Went to Miobi's Memorial day run. Stomper, My son and I left Thursday night, It was approx. 6 p.m. before we got on the road for what we expected to be a 6 hour drive. The bus pulled really well all things considered. At points it can be a handful. It went a steady 62 mph. on the flat roads. Lost a bit here and there up hills and such but did pretty good. $285.00 in fuel to get us there and back didn't seem to bad with a rolling weight of 27,200 lbs. :eek1: Suprisingly the binders bring the whole thing to a stop very quickly. Quickly enough you have concerns about the straps on the trailer being enough! We also had probably 2000# of tools in the back of the bus that were strapped in place and road pretty nicely.

Hooked up with Lane J. on the way down and convoyed for the majority of the trip. Lane's tow rig simply put, kicks azz. It's an early 80's Crew cab Chevy. 496 big block that pulls hard all day long! He had to stay out of the throttle for us to keep up with him. A pair of FRS radios kept us communicating along the way.

Pulled in to camp around 2 a.m. and crashed till morning. Promptly got teched in and started playing. This being the first time out for the blazer we weren't sure what to expect. Approx. 1.5 hours into the day we nuked a ujoint which ended up being the weak link the whole weekend.

3rd Ujoint took the shaft ears with it which ended our fun on Saturday in the afternoon. The 500 caddy has gobs of torque and I thouroughly enjoyed wheeling with the 465 and doubler. Most of the time I had the 205 shifters in low and the 203 in high gear and would select a wheel speed with the 465 shifter and skinny pedal. Other problems experienced were a broken throttle cable, which will really get your attention, fuel starvation when the truck was laying on its passenger side in a deep crevas, a few winch problems which will sort themselves out easily enough.

It rained pretty much everyday we were there for an hour or so and then would quit again. Mud was prevelant but at this location, most of the ground seem to get tackier with a little moisture on it. Not you standard mud but more like clay.

We had a really good time and thanks to the MIOBI crew for putting on the event.

We did sponsor the event and handed out some trinkets while in camp as well as donating a gift cert. for the raffle.

I'll try to add some pics to this post in a couple minutes here. Didn't have a chance to take many pictures so i'll have to see whats on the cameras.

Sounds awesome man! Glad to see you were finally able to get out a run the rig through the paces!:D

Btw pics?:D

So, you remember why you got into all of this in the first place? It takes a trip now and then to keep me motivated to work on my pile. Sounds like you had a great trip.:waytogo:

Yep, that's what it was all about this weekend. Finding out what will and won't work! It was fun! We'll be doing the 1480 drive shaft modification to alleviate the ujoint problems.

A couple other side notes, Those metal chairs you can get, they have a rubber foot on them that work awesome for a cheap way to plug air couplers from debris. We also R and D'd a set of adj. on the cheap bump stops on this trip, I'll post some pics of those before too long as well.

Is this something you'll be adding to your list of regular services?

Seriously, I'd be interested in the puck that bolts to the output flange of a 205. The rest of the mod is easy enough to acomplish at home without a machine shop. :deal:

did you happen to figure out what fuel mileage you were getting???

I figured it was getting somewhere around 7-8 mpg.

Would the 205 flange have the same bolt pattern as a HAD 32 spline flange? If so, just about anybody could use the puck (assuming they'd be willing to buy the flange from Jessie). I'd go for it, seems like it'd be a super strong set up for a front shaft.

Paging Kert to aisle two... paging Kert...

I bet it could be made with two different bolt patterns so it would fit either of the designs. It's a pretty simple piece to make and if I was still in a machine shop instead of unemployed I'd be pushing these out by the dozen in a matter of days. ;) I'd like to see 1480 options for the front and the rear if it was possible. Them is some big u-joints.

what size joint were you going through? 1410? there is nothing in the picture to give it scale. was it the joint at the axle or the t-case?

Well Kert seein ass how you were spitting out UJoints is it safe to assume the Clutch is holding up well so far?

Have you pegged the tach on the 500 yet?

Did Early turn out to be cheap gas for you guys? I totally forget to ask the people that work there if they say a purple bus toyin a Tiger Camo Blazer

Smaller than a 1410. Just a conversion joint. I don't have alot of angle on it though so we kinda hoped it'd hold up. The rear held up fine so could also be a spring wrap issue at the same time in the front. It was at the axle.

Clutch was getting worse all weekend as well. Got a new one before we left but didn't have time to put it in. I saw 3500 rpm's on the tach. I may have hit higher but didn't actually see it at that point.

I'm going to do some messing around with the joints before I say too much. That won't be for a few days though. Got some catching up to do at the shop.

Haven't gotten very far on the dshaft project. A good start on the 14BFF yoke but other than that...
