2005 Chevy 2500HD extended cab longbox 4x4, 6.6L Duramax / ZF6 6 speed manual transmission, NP261 floor shift t-case. Rear gov-loc, power locks, manual windows, AC, base model dual zone heater controls and sound system. Approx 80 000 miles on the odometer.

She has one glaring issue however. The transfercase front output and front pinion bearings are both beyond shot, major slop in the both of them. The dealer has had the truck since about January, and isn't about to move it any time soon becuase of the damage to the 4x4 stuff.

Besides the shot bearings, the truck is in extremely good mechanical condition. Rear axle is solid, good bearings, IFS / steering is tight, and well maintained. Brakes are very good, and she has no shimmys or shakes all the way up to the speed limiter. Clutch was swapped out with a dual friction disc assembly and a solid flywheel to stand up to the Duramax, it has never been chipped, and is bone stock all around.

What do you guys figure it'd be worth? I am easily able to source the parts and repair it myself, there are a ton of these trucks in the wrecking yards around here full of the stuff I need for it. Since the truck has the ZF6 instead of the Allison, the t-case is the common / cheap one vs the expensive one behind the 6 speed auto.

I have an 07 LBZ Duramax reg cab / long box with the 6 speed auto with 50 000 miles on it now in the last two years. I paid 30k for the truck, and would like to see it last a bit longer. I commute about 1000 miles a week as I come on and off shift up North, and the miles are racking up quick. I also don't want to be paying full comprehensive coverage on the truck every month with it sitting 4 days out of the week, nor do I want to run it during the winter (-70 is fine with a beater, but I don't wanna do that to my nice truck!)

What says CK5? What would she be worth to you guys?

I just sold my '03 2500HD w/ duramax and allison in excellent condition and 100k miles for $18k. I'm guessing the dealer is asking somwhere in the neighborhood of $25k. I'd offer $20k to 23k depending on how bad you need it.

Maybe 12K-14K. Prices seem to be all over the place for these, 20K for beat one`s w/150K on them. I sold my 05 SBCC w/60K for 21K and it was like pulling teeth, truck was mint.

Well, here is the story on it's price...

Back in about December or November, I took a look at this truck with my cousin. He is a lot like me and wanted a newer Chevy base model truck with a diesel and a manual transmission. He found it online, and took me over there with him. We took the truck from the lot there and brought it out to my place to give it a good once over. I took half the truck apart to inspect everything I could think of, and put a good 100 miles on it to test drive it / look for problems without a sales guy breathing down our necks.

Both of us really, really liked the truck, the manual transmission is fantastic, and it has lots of power like my LBZ does. It drove really well, but there was still that damage to the 4x4 components. The dealership was asking 18k at the time, and was unaware / lied about the bad bearings. I took the truck to a few shops that I associate with to get quotes on replacing the components professionally (parts + labour) and they all came up with a price right up around 6k. Since the tires are also shot (never rotated so the rears are worn right out, fronts are good) we offered the lot 10k for the truck. He came back with a counter offer of 14k and we decided to play hard ball and walked. Ultimately, my cousin purchased a newer Dodge with a Cummins / 6 speed instead for about 20k and is probably best for it in the long run.

I drove by the lot last night just by chance and saw that it was still sitting there now. I know that the lot is hard up for sales, becuase almost all the vehicles sitting there are the same ones as he had back when we were there last time. I checked the window sticker and he is now asking 14.9k for the truck. I was going to offer him 8k this time, and stick to my guns on it. I don't badly need the truck, but would like it just for the transmission it has, so I was not going to be playing the haggle game with him. I was going to offer 4k down on purchase, then 1k a month afterwards to pay it off in 4 months.

Seems that trucks are much cheaper up here in Canada than down south though, but I wanted to get a feel for what they are going for elsewhere to try and decide if I actually want to go for it or not...

If it's just a commuter truck why spend all the extra $$$ for a 3/4 ton diesel? Shoot get a 1/2 ton standard cab with the 5.3L or if you must get a standard cab 3/4 ton with the 6.0L
Both would be a heck of a lot cheaper and you wouldn't mind having to get a new one every couple years.

The only thing I can think of is you want the mileage of the diesel because of your big commute but with the prices you're talking about I can't imagine it'd work out in your favor when talking about a 1/2 ton getting 14mpg+ vs. a diesel getting closer to 20mpg when the diesel is almost twice the initial purchase price.

If he accepts my offer, it'll actually be about the same price is a comparable gasser, only 1k or so more... Diesel fuel is also considerably cheaper than gasoline around here too, which helps. That said I am not so much going for the 3/4 ton or the diesel so much as the manual transmission. I'd run a 4.3L or 4.8L 1/2 ton 4x4 with a 5 speed just as soon as the 3/4 ton diesel with the 6 speed :D

They are just bloody hard to find around here, guys who have them hold onto them....

We only live 5 or 6 thousand miles apart, haha -- No problems dude :D I'm still trying to justify it myself...
