So whats the trick?

Bet, i don't get this posted in time.....

The bolt part that goes through the arm is tapered. Put a board on top to keep from damaging anything, remove the grease fitting if you have already screwed it in, if it has one, and tap the joint quite firmly down into the arm.
The taper will bind, and hold long enough for the nut to start tightening, which will draw it farther into the taper, and lock it solid.

I've had a helper turn the steering wheel and hold pressure on it and that worked to keep the studs from spining..also used a jack under the ball socket to press up on it,that works too..Impact gun work too,but over-torquing in migh lead to breakage or a stuck stud that wont want to come out again if there's a "next time"..

I agree with the other guys. I use a jack to push against it and blip it with the impact to get it started.

I might add,if you run across a tie rod or drag link,or ball joint stud that doesn't seem to want to "grab" and stop spinning when you try tightening it,no matter what you try--chances are good the thing was driven with it loose long enough to hog out the tapered hole in the steering arm,and if its bad enough,it could lead to the stud snapping off someday down the road....
