Im a very very poor college student looking for a pair of tube doors/rollcage. I am looking for just an average set of tube doors. I know a site online sells them for about $170 so if anyone can fabricate some for less, let me know. I am also looking for a rollcage that is already custom cut and only requires welding. Right now I am thinking of the S&W 10 point cage because I have heard great things about them and its not too expensive (about $260 for the cage without shipping). I know probably nobody on here sells a pre-cut cage, but just asking. The tube doors would be nice though.
Just a little background. I have an 87 k5 that I bought in almost perfect condition (non-lifted on 28's) a little less than 3 years ago (minus a blown motor). I have built it up myself with a bds lift up front, shackle flip in rear, new shocks, brake lines, motor, 14 ff rear with 4.56 and detroit, the front it a 3/4 ton 10 b with 4.56 open. It was a DD and pretty good wheeler on 37's for about two years when I was a sophomore-junior-senior in highschool. Now that im in college....I have a car and a little more time/money to invest in the truck. I want to convert it from a truck that not only got me everywhere on the weekdays, but also got me a good ways on the trail; to a truck that I only drive on the street to get to the trail. Anyways, I figure the best way to go hardcore is to go full cage (that way i can roll it in safety since i dont care about the almost mint(minus the paint job) body, and no doors/top/tailgate will also help in the weight/getting up rocks cepartment.) So anyone who can hekp me in the department of cheap/used tube doors/cage.sliders department...let me know. Thanks. I hope to one day make it to ecbb, but I didnt want too last year due to the ineadequate equipment/copmpletley full body on a front 10-bolt. ( I wont have money for a D60 for a long time, unless someone wants to cut me a nice deal on one of those too  ) Thanks.

if you can find the doors for $170 i'd get them. after material thats only like two hours labor charge. that's pretty cheap

blazenoffroad.com has them for 179.99 plus shipping, Waiting on mine as we speak.

Here are the 2 versions he makes

as far as cages from them I have seen the one in TIM's truck and not really very impressed as much as it is a DIY cage you still have to make cuts and make things work there is not such thing as a PRE MADE cage he bought GUsSets and it is strong but for me i have long legs and my legs hit the downbar on the driverside as well as my head . I go to wyotech and my Project for chassis fab is going to be EXO CAGIN the k10 i have I would rather that and get rid of the bed than inside cage not enough room in a reg cab already .

I have the S&W cage, for the money it is not bad. I am 6.2" and don't have a problem with my head.

Here are some older pics with the cage

That is the 10 point family cage with some extra tube here and there.

Was the cage kit worth it? Do you think it would hold up sufficiently in the case of a roll or multiple roll? Also, how much work on your part was required (other than welding) to install it? How long does it take to install...and are there good instructions? Sorry for so many questions...just want to know. Thanks.

I really want to go....but I have to work friday saturday and sunday. Im willing to wait till this summer. Does he have all the tools and fab skills to complete this? I know I dont have a tube bender, and probably dont have the fab skills to do a custom cage. It would be nice/cheap though. As for the welding skills...im hoping to have them down bout x-mas time. Right when i get some extra cash for parts. Anyways...ill wait if you think we can accomplish this. I would also like sliders....but im pretty sure I can fab those up. :wink1:

Not to hi-jack the thread, but I have a tube bender and am willing to help out anyone who wants to drive over anytime. Windsor is just across the border from Detroit Michigan.

Yes the cage was worth it. Should hold up to a severe roll no problem. I took a little work to get it together, the hardest part is learning how to knotch the tubing corectly. Could be put together over a weekend. It came with no instructions. In the end I will have probably another 60-80ft of extra tubing added here and there.

I wold gladly take you up on that but it would probably cost more gas money to get to antario than for me to buy a tube bender and the tube. :doah: Thanks for the offer though.

Just a few more questions and i promise ill be done.
1) What did you use to notch the tubing?
2) Will it fit under the hard top? ( it doesnt really matter because in the interest of saving weight, im running with no top...just wondering if I ever have to put it back on).
3) Is it absolutely necessary to add extra tubing or will it be sufficient by itself? Ill probably add more to it eventually either way.
4). their website says that only the roof hoop and windshield down bars require notching...is this true.
5) Lastly, will it fit with the stock dash?
--Oh, how much did shipping set ya back? I bet it was kind of pricey. Thanks for your patience with me on this.

Hehe, no problem! I know there's a few guys from Michigan and Ontario here so the offer was mostly to them. But hell, anyone who wants to come down is welcome. We got a Casino here too, and your winnings are tax free in Canada eh!

3) Is it absolutely necessary to add extra tubing or will it be sufficient by itself? Ill probably add more to it eventually either way.No need for the extra tubing, I just wanted it to look more like a custon cage than a kit
4). their website says that only the roof hoop and windshield down bars require notching...is this true. Its been so long sence I did that part I really cant remember. I think most of it was knotched but you still had to fine tune it
5) Lastly, will it fit with the stock dash?Yes
--Oh, how much did shipping set ya back? I bet it was kind of pricey.Don't think it was to bad $60-75. The cage to my door was around $475 I think

Thanks for your patience with me on this.
