going to be draining the fluid on a 241tcase in the morming. I need to know the size of the fill plug and drain plug ?.
I tried a 11/8 socket, too small. then I tried a 11/4 socket, too big.
what size is just right ??????

Metric ... 30mm if memory serves. [Edit, 30mm for sure.]

I'd tell you to do a search but I just did one to double check my memory, and can't find a certain answer myself =))

Some folks say that can do it with an adjustable ("Crescent") wrench, but on the truck I had with a '241, the head was so low profile the wrench just slipped off. Went out and got me a 30mm socket, only one I could find was an axle nut socket ... aha, I could look in my toolbox. (Goes out to garage, and checks ... the only axle socket I have in metric is 30mm, so yep, it's 30mm!)

Aaron is correct, it is a 30mm socket and i've also tried with a cresent wrench before i finally bought the proper tool. The head of the plug is too shallow to use a wrench on it properly.

thank you .

I've been doing them with a cresent wrench since I bought my first K5 in 2001. I never ran into one that I couldn't get off easily with it.

Well this one wasnt loosening with a wrench, plus its looks like somebody fubarred it before. We picked up a socket and walaa job done.
Thanks.

Now that it's off, have your local machinist mill it down to the next closest SAE size!!!

I hate metric bolts on an American truck

There and I thought you were gonna say to use a metric ballpeen. :wink1:

IIRC there are two plugs you'd have to yank out and have milled... lotta work and maybe cost just to swap out your 30mm socket for a 1 1/8 or 1 5/32.

OTOH, I wholeheartedly agree with you ... my CUCV drove me nuts  that way, as maybe a third of the fasteners were metric -- and it was Army, for chrissake. I *love* my 70's trucks for that reason among so many -- all SAE ;)
