Ok so I am planning on buying a new soft top later this winter. I am going to be shooting some als liner in the tub this thanksgiving weekend and am going to go up and over the bedrails of the blazer. It has the captured nuts in it for the singlewall top and was wondering if I would be screwing myself down the road if I weld the holes closed and bedline over the top of them.

Does the new soft top use any of these holes or do you have to drill your own?

The Besttop that was/is on mine had some of the captured nuts being used and 2 or 3 on either side with a regular nut. I'd say leave them, but that's just me. I plan to tack the remaining nuts underneath the bedrails when I'm redoing mine. I also plan to go Al's liner up and over the tops just to protect it where the soft top mounts.

What brand top are you going with?

The new one are made by softtopper. My Kayline fastrack uses the captured nuts under the rail.

I have a new softtopper and it uses the captured nuts too. Unless you plan on having a custom top and frame made I wouldn't weld the holes closed.

I don't have any pics, but I will try to take some tomorrow when I have better lighting. It uses three of the holes down each side. The first one (starting towards the front) is about six inches back. The next one is almost dead center above the fender well and the last one is about 9 or 10 inches from the tailgate.
