Soft Top Questions

I'm tring to design a removeable side window system for the hardtop anyway. I'll post it this winter when I get it done, no charge:wink1: .

Well for anyone that really wants a soft top that wants one, consider that it is REALLY easy to build one yourself. I have the old Kayline/STC snaptop version, and it is great. I've been debating getting a newer fastrack just for the slicker design.

I've been wavering because 1) the older version that I have has (I think) better lines, even the windows have a better look to them. And 2) I like the roll up windows better than the zip out. And 3) It is easier to open up the rear gate on the older ones.

If you could borrow someone's top for a day you could replicate the pattern of the material to send to a boat builder, and you could fab the metal work from material available at Home Depot!

Now this isn't to say it's not a welll thought out, quality product. But if I don't end up getting the fastrack version, I'll be 'restoring' mine to better than original condition.

I Just Called Specialty Top Co And Was Told That It Is In The Process Of Negotiations Of Sale And If The Company That They Are Talking To Does Buy It, The Tops Will Still Be Produced, Just By Another Company, Just Like When They Bought Kayline. He Said He Will Know More In About 1 Week.

My connection to STC was a company out of Atlanta called "the jeep.com" (I know, I know...Sorry.) an they are pretty large there. He said that the prospective buyers were hemming and hawing and when I asked what his opinion about the likely-hood of them getting it together he said not good. When a vendor turns down a sale it probably is for legit reasons. Heck, I hope he is wrong because I would like one.

That guy is nuckin' futz big. Good endurance for someone so big. What isn't understood by the layman is that the smaller guy in the picture is probably 6'5". Sorry for the hijack.

I'm pretty sure that's where my brother said he went through to order his top.

Bad News....

So I called about my soft top the other day (it was through The Jeep, cuz' they were the cheapest). They told me that STC was going under, and it was going to be some time before they re-opened, if they did so at all. I'm supposed to have a refund and a letter telling me what happened by the end of the week. So I guess the hunt is back on...... :doah:
