i have 2 blazer 1990-1991 and i am lookign for a soft top, but i want it alot liek a marine style that can be folded up and zipped in a cover around the back part of the cab when the top is off does anyone know any liek that, or any good canvas shops that owuld do work like that?

Do a search for SOFT TOPS and you will find a lot of information. I did that search earlier today for my 79. A lot of weblinks were in the posts for specific application vendors. They run between $350 and $550 depending on style.

I am checking local marine stores and sewing places. A lot of the time, you can make a frame and have some person that does sewing make one for a lot less $$.

I got a whole lot of army surplus canvas pup tents that button together, i was thinking about trying to make one using those. They seem to be pretty weather resistant...

what are people making frames out of? Off to the search page...

Had a canvas shop make mine for under 300, i made rails out of L shaped steel, then drilled holes and bolted it to where the hard top would. Works great looks like a military humvee

thats pretty cool.

I took some measurements of my tents and got
109" wide
64" long (main body)
43" long flaps to the point

rough measurements of my truck top

108" over the top
72" long
80" wide

so it might just fit if i can do something with the flaps...

have my mom sew some windows in and sew it together by the buttons and i might be able to do this...

then i just need a frame...

Have her make a few and sell them.

hadn't thought of that, good idea. i was thinking 1" tube cause i have a 1" inch die so I could bend it, but that would pry be better...

thanks

once it stops raining over here I'll see what i can put together.

Yeah, conduit would work fine I would think. That's about all the frame is on mine as well. Get you one of those muscle driven conduit benders and get after it. :waytogo:

Some have gotten tops made from boat places before. I think it might still be a bit pricey though. Worth checking into at least.

Bigblaze- That was custom made by a boat canvas shop for under 300. I made the rails before i brought it to him and gave him the general idea and he made it. It works great, folds up small, would probably be cheaper without those windows I had put in, any other questions feel free to ask.
