whats up guys? have been searching all over for a soft top for my 1983 K5 and have only found that most companies are out of buisiness or "pending sale." Does anyone know of a company that still makes a top? i found none up for sale on ebay or craigslist.

Also has anyone rigged up a makeshift top? i was thinking of how i could adapt some kind of jeep bikini top or something to at least provide some shade for the backseat for when i take off the 300lb fiberglass oven.

You are correct: there are no currently manufactured soft tops available for the 73-91 Blazer. You may find one in a warehouse somewhere (not likely as most vendors drop shipped) or used on Ebay, Craigslist or the like.

You might do well if you have a boat shop locally, who can custom-make you a setup. Alternately if you're good with a conduit bender you might make your own frame and either sew or have made for you the canvas for it.

Many folks have done their own, and there are LOTS of posts on this topic here; do a search.

The only company making full soft tops for Blazers is Bestop. Do a search for "Bestop Blazer" Qutie a few places selling them will come up. Shop around to get the best price.
usually around $720-$750 Ask for free shipping.

soft-tops.com makes a fastback style soft top.

Canback is susposed to start producing blazer tops again one of these days.

I believe that Bestop recently stopped making them for our trucks; at the very least they're not longer listing any on their web site.

I just got this off their web site:

TigertopThis classic soft top attaches to your vehicle with reinforced hidden snaps and includes fabric, hardware and roll-up windows. Jeep soft top, Toyota Land Cruiser soft top, Blazer-Jimmy soft top, Ramcharger-Trailduster soft top, Bronco soft top, and a Scout II soft top are available.

Yabbut, I think they've not completely updated the site.

http://bestop.com/index.php?s=6

It's not listed under the Tigertop, nor under the Supertop

http://bestop.com/index.php?s=2

which has a listing for a Bronco :(

And then we have the last discussion w.r.t Bestop

As I said, been covered to death ;)

dremu, thanks for the idea about the conduit tubing as a frame i was thinking i would be stuck until i built the cage but that should work untill then and i hadnt thought of the boat shops i guess i should call around.

and besttop def stopped distributing or manufacturing the tops, if u click on the tigertops link u see the blazer is not listed any more they didnt update the description.

anyway i got a good start with the coduit idea, so thats the route i will take unless one pops up on ebay.
o yea, do you have to be a supporting member to search?

There is also a thread further into the Garage that discusses the new Can-Back soft top that they are trying to get out later this year. It will be the only manufacturer making them, but they aren't goint to be cheap.

Well dremu yur right. I called bestop. They said they discontinued them with no plans to make any more. I was putting off buying one hoping to get a better top. I guess I waited too long. I will hope that canback starts making one........But i dont think hell has froze over yet.

No demand? Thats what they told me too. That is strange. There was a new bestop for a Blazer on ebay last week. The thing had a lot of people bidding on it.
The last time I checked it on saturday, the price was over $760 and climbing with a day and a half to go.

Im trying to get a friend of mine to start making tops for k5's. He just purchased some expensive sewing equipment for a manufacturing business in Georgia. He has worked with vinyl for years so it has to be similar to sewing soft top material. I will keep pushing him because I need one myself !!

check with you local upholstery shops or places that do boat tops. They can make them and they would know the right material to use for windows, good heavy zippers and snaps. Here are a couple shots of the tops I had made last year 2007 for blazer bash. I can't remember exactly how much they were but I think the full top was just over 500 and the other one was like 250. Probably says in one of my earlier posts.

I used the cage as a frame, but it wouldn't be hard to design one out of conduit, angled aluminum, some snaps and the like.

Your best to just come up with a design of your own. I worked with a local canvas shop and shown them what I was after, just takes a little thought]

Chris! I didn't realize (or maybe remember) that your top is custom. That is a fine piece of cloth for sure!
