SOLD LOCALLY.
MAKE OFFER! I need to sell before the end of the month. I originally wanted $2800 for the truck, but the first $2200 cash gets it out right. If you are interested, MAKE AN OFFER, and we will go from there. NO TRADES.
For sale is my 1979 Chevy K5 Blazer. It has been modified to be used as a mud truck, so if you are looking for a stock Blazer, this is not the vehicle for you.
Engine: It has a 7.4 L big block 454 engine in it. It was rebuilt and installed in the fall of 2007 and really doesn't have many miles on it. It is mostly a stock engine from a 1974 car (Impala, Caprice, or Corvette), so it does have passenger car heads vs. the restrictive truck heads (I can find where I wrote down the casting number if you are interested) and the matching camshaft. The intake is still cast as I wanted it to be able to run at higher temperatures if the engine got coated in mud. The block was cleaned, baked, and painted and new Clevite 77 cam, main, and rod bearings were installed along with new Perfect Circle piston rings. A new high volume oil pump and valve seals were used and the valves were re-seated. The engine has never had any problems handling the heat buildup due to mud clogging the radiator at times. The fuel is provided by a Holley 4011 series 4 barrel 650 cfm carburetor with a new fuel pump installed during the engine rebuild.
Transmission: TH350. It has the Kevlar band, red friction clutches, a shift kit, as well as a few sprags and roller bearings that had given me trouble in the past. It has a 2300 stall converter in it. I also have installed an additional aftermarket transmission cooler to help keep the temps down. I have a spare TH350 2wd trans to go with it that can be made into 4wd by replacing the tail housing. I also have 5 boxes of spare TH350 parts
Transfer Case: NP203. I put the part time kit into it so there is no all time 4WD meaning you actually do have 4LO, 2LO, N, 2HI, 4HI. I just replaced the front output seal so it is leak free.
Front axle: Dana 44 with a Detroit Truetrac with 4.10 gears (ring and pinion were replaced about 3 years ago). It also has fairly new (replaced about 2 years ago) Warn lockout hubs. These work in conjunction with the part time kit to reduce wear on the front drive components. It also has the dropped steering arm and linkage to help with the angles from the lift. All the front bearings, seals, and U-joints have been replaced within the past 3 years. Custom double cardan drive shaft to help with the lift angle
Rear axle: full float Corporate 14 bolt with a G80 GovLoc and 4.10 gears. Disc brakes have been installed vice the heavy drum brakes. Custom double cardan drive shaft to help with the lift angle.
Tires: 39.5” tall by 15.5” wide Super Swamper TSL’s mounted on 15x10 chrome rims on the 8 lug Chevy pattern. The tires are bias ply and internally balanced so when you are running down pavement, don’t be expecting a smooth ride as they are mud tires. I also have a mounted 40” Dick Cepek Fun Country as a spare. So you are actually getting 5 mounted tires. I have a set of 37" radial tires if intereted as well.
Additional: The truck has about 8-9” of lift and I did have to trim the front fenders to prevent tire rub. I have also installed limiting straps and bump stops on the front axle as well. The front brakes have extended stainless steel brake lines from Skyjacker (the right one is brand new as it got ripped apart last fall). Extended shocks on all 4 corners. Dual steering stabilizer on the front tie rod. Tow hooks on the front. Hitch on the back. Custom front bumper/grill guard. Headers installed last summer with dual 2.5” exhaust with glasspacks all the way back, coming out on either side of the hitch. Truck bed coated (painted not sprayed) the whole interior, so there is no carpet. All interior rust spots have been patched with new sheet metal and welded in. Electronic rear window. CD player in the dash with 4 speakers (2 in the doors and 2 6”X9” in stand alone boxes in the back). I have a homemade soft cover for it, but the brackets got trashed. The hard top comes off easily and doesn't leak at all as I have had if off every summer.
The bad: The speedometer does not work, the output coupler coming out of the transfer case is broken where the cable attaches. The interior frame of the passenger seat is broken, so now it has a permanent lean back to it. The exterior, especially around the wheel wells is rusty and the rear tailgate could use some rust repair (what do you expect for a '79 in the northern climate), however like I said before, the interior has been fixed with new sheet metal and two new body mounts were welded in. Frame is solid all the way through. The paint is rough and there is some body damage from the woods, but nothing too big. There is no emergency brake, with the disc brake conversion, the parking brake was eliminated. I run historic plates on it and have never had a problem with it when I have gone wheeling.
Extras: Also included is the spare TH350 transmission that came behind 454. I was told that is worked fine but I have not verified that. Anything else that I have specifically for the truck I will throw in: 2 old front drive shafts, the stock rear driveshaft, tie rod link, both front axle shafts, spare transmission parts (5 boxes full), 3 torque converters, used ring and pinion, badges, spare headlight trim, add-a-leaf springs, random etc.
This truck is a lot of fun, but I have to sell it for an upcoming move to the opposite coast. I I used it this past winter in the storms we got and I was pretty much the only one that could get on the roads. Wheeled it about a month ago and no problems. I have put a lot of money and tons of time into it in the past several years, but I am going to be moving to the West Coast soon and can't afford to take it with.
First $2200 cash takes it, OBO. If interested make an offer and we can go from there. Email or call Matt at (586) 246-1615. The truck is located in Great Mills, MD.
I also have a set 4 37” radial tires mounted on 17” H2 rims that can go with the truck. The front are stock Goodyear Wrangler GS-A tires from an H2 and the rear are Toyo M/T Open Country. I also have a spare Goodyear Wrangler GS-A tires that isn't mounted and has uneven wear. So you would be getting 5 tires, 4 of which are mounted on 8 lug rims. I use these 37” tires when I am driving the truck a far distance on the road (such as when I moved from MI to MD) and they really help the steering and ride comfort level. If interested, I will sell these for about $300 with the truck. I will sell them separately only after I sell the truck.
