I am looking for a good soldering iron. I generally like a butane one but butane is hard to come by out here in iraq. If you know of an electric one that is just as good clue me in on it.

If you want good....don't get an iron.
Get a soldering station.

I have a Pace station, ESD safe. Works great for me.

Easily changeable tips...can be changed hot.
Well regulated temperature.
Mine is ESD safe.
goes from 0 - 725 deg/f fast.
Can be linked to other Pace stations.

butane torch is the ONLY thing ive ever used for soldering.... and you can heat shrink over top of the solder with it too

Sautering Iron

that caught my eye, I am not even that bad. :D

I got a coldheat on sale, the kind that run on 4 AA batteries works good, just becarfle of the tips they brake if you push on them.

I have one too. Mine lasted a total of 5 minutes before i broke the tip. It never really worked right for me either

Yeah, I'm from alabama. I can't help it. I figured it out about 2 minutes after I posted it that it was supposed to be soldering. i wrote it just like I say it:D

I looked u the SP 30. It was 155.00 brand new from the stanley tools website. guess i need to go look on ebay when i get the chance.

Dont know about stations or what not, but stay away from the Snap-On butane ones! They work great for a few months and then they dont start by themselves anymore and the tips wear out really fast. I have had mine replaced 4 times in the last year and a half since I owned it. I do take care of it and clean it after each use as well, doesnt help. My next one will be a corded one for sure.

lak... ive had both my snap-on torches for more than 4 years and never had a problem, i sell the self igniting models and dont have any problems with the customers that are intelligent enough not to run them over lol

cooper tools that makes weller makes a great corded unit as well

:haha: One of my coworkers is good at running his stuff over too. Strange maybe I just get a crappy one every time . One of my buddies has one and has to get his replaced every once in a while as well. They just quit wanting to light after a while for some reason :dunno:

lak, what model? torch 4?? if so, pay the difference and upgrade to a yaks32 or a torch5 if you like the vertical style

We had a Pace station in our shop when I was in the AF. It was the fanciest thing money could buy, ESD, vacuum for the solder sucker, digital temp control, etc. It had it all. And to tell you the truth, I hated that thing. You couldn't keep a good tip on it, it always lost contact inside somehow and failed our ESD tests, seemed a lot more susceptible to corrosion and such. We had some simple little Weller units that never failed ESD tests, tips lasted forever, never gave me a problem. Costed a lot less too. I'm sure Pace makes some good stuff, maybe ours was a lemon, but I'll stick with weller for the money. Just my $.02.
