what makes an ifs setup so weak..and how hard would it be to do a solid front axle conversion on a 1984 S-10 Blazer..cost?..

the stress on the wear components of the IFS cause it to be weak, adding larger tires or modifying the suspension for more lift causes the problems to become worse and the parts tend to wear faster. For example i cranked the torsen bars for a inch of lift when i installed new Dana Balljoints. It only took 3000 miles to kill the ball joints of mostly street driving and no real offroading.

A solid front axle will require a lot of fab work and planing but it will make lifting easier and will make the front end stronger
