Anyone ever made/bought solid motor mounts? I want minimum drivetrain movement but I'm wondering about vibrations. The whole thing is tube body welded/bolted directly to k5 frame. (TRAIL ONLY)

In Offroad racing we use solid motor mounts. We use solid front motor mounts and an engine plate, 1/2 inch aluminum, between the engine and transmission. This requires a very rigid chassis. If I were you I would use a urethane bushing motor mount like the ones AutoFab http://www.autofab.com/chevy.htm in San Diego sells, because of some frame flex.

But on the subject of SOLID MOUNTS, /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif I wouldn't want them in my truck, because last set I installed in a race car of mine used to shake the fillings outta my teeth! /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Granted, there was a 550HP 383 SBC under the hood!

Hey that buggy looks cool...! I too am building a buggy. I call it the FunBuggy. check it out on my webshots albums.

Back to the subject line... I ran solid mounts on a Jeep that I had. It was a "sand only" machine and typically saw high rpm and WOT. I loved the solid mounts, and swore that it helped me get up the hill faster. But... I'm using Urethane spring bushing mounts for the FunBuggy. For crawling and low rpm stuff I can't imagine that the solid connection would help, and the bushings will eat up some of the vibration.

The last write up I had seen on solid mounts (perhaps in some "build a small block chevy" books) mentioned that the problem with them is that they distort the block moreso than stiffer, yet still flexible, poly mounts. I was always afraid you might break the block, but apparently the block flexes ok, its just that it affects those cylinders near the mounts. FWIW.
