Hey guys my 383 build is nearly complete but I have some questions.

The engine block is a 2 piece rear main seal. 400 crank with stock rods and forged pistons .30 hydraulic roller camshaft, 1.6 ratio roller rockers. It has been balanced. I am not sure of the heads, I do know that they are iron and were built for this engine. Engine was modeled after a LT4.

I am going with a bored 350 throttle body with a 454 top half (not sure of the nomenclature) and injectors, mainly for simplicities sake and because of the provisions for a 700r4 cable. Can this 350 throttle body flow enough air for this engine? Or will I have to find a way to put the rest (lower half) of the 454 throttle body on the intake manifold. I am going after tq here, that is my goal.

I have used a 454 throttle body and injectors by grinding down the peened over portion of the trottle shaft on each throttle body and swapping the linkage arm from the 350TBI , then securing it with a tack weld.

Thanks man.

Thanks man, I decided to stay with 350 injectors for the moment. At least till it is broken in, the 454 injectors were giving it way too much fuel.

You need to regardless. That motor is far from the stock perameters the ECM is tuned for. Untill you monitor the motor and start tuning chips, you are lucky to even be in the ballpark with it. The biggest risk is if it is running too lean (especially at WOT), you can burn it up in short order.

Nuts.

Ok forgive my ignorance, will I have to remove the chip from the computer? Send it out? The computer is located behind the glove-box right?:doah:

Or should I just PM eagle mark?

As for the TB, the 454 will give you more HP top end WOT high RPM. The 5.7L will give better throttle response and torque fell lower RPM... the 700R4 linkage can be made to work on 454 or there are drill and bolt on kits for the cable.

What intake and adapter? The 454 TB is much bigger and stock intake needs machining to clear, four barrel intakes with adapters can be used but usually choke it down a little to clear anyway.

For tuning it you'd need about 15-16 PSI fuel pressure for the 5.7L injectors and possibly a fuel pump whereas the 454/7.4L injectors will run enough fuel with stock pressure and pump. Yes it will not run good with stock chip at idle and low RPM on 7.4L injectors but that can be turned down. The 5.7L injectors at stock pressure is barely enough for a stock motor, yes it will start, idle and run better at low RPM. The Fueling VE table only goes to 100%, can't add fuel that is not there but can take away. End game is enough fuel for WOT high RPM or your running lean and wasting your time tuning.

Should really have injectors serviced before you start the tuning process. It's cheap and you end up knowing what you have. I've seen a difference of 3-12% before and after service. If you have no one local look up Mr Injector for mail service. He's right down the street from me and does excellent work.

I can do a chip calibrated for the new engine set up. But it's still a starter chip, will run good. But to dial in a tune you need to have a data log cable to laptop and record some data to fine tune.

I have both 454 and 350 injectors. I also have both 454 and 350 throttle bodies. The 350 has been bored out, my intake manifold is stock 350 tbi, well I drilled the 4 center holes to fit it on my older block which was a 1977 2 piece rms. I do have a weiland carburated intake manifold sitting around as well so that is an option as well.

So basically I should run 454 injectors and get the fuel turned down. The 454 injectors I have are brand new whereas the 350 ones I have are used.

When a chip gets "burned" does it ever lose it's memory like if the battery on the vehicle gets disconnected?

There is some memory in the ECM that is lost when power is removed, it quickly relearns the BLM/Long Term Fuel Trim. Also error codes are erased.

But chips never loose anything when power is removed. I use new chips and burn them, but these old chips can be put under UV light to erase and reburn. Sometimes they fry, if you get it right a few erases... some more... You need a chip burner to program them.
