Some Ask ~ If I wheel in sand will my manual hubs seal out the sand??

Jeez. I imagine there saltwater involved in there as well? Looks like rust mixed with sand. Either way I'll be checking mine out
 
I knew a guy who would duct tape his hubs before starting his sand wheeling for the day, and tape off at the end of the day. He said it really helped. Did it really help keep the sand out?... I don't know.
 
I got my CUCV in 2009, it came from Fort Irwin in San Bernardino. After having it for 11 years and cleaning the inside more times than I can count, I still craps sand in my eyes every time I have to deal with something under the dash. Sand and clay mud both can go straight to hell, it never goes away.

I've been in sand many times and never found sand inside the hubs. If sand can get past the o-ring, water will get in no question, plus the grease can go right out. Either the o-ring is bad, one of the sealing surfaces is bad or the o-ring is the wrong size. The pictures imply that the o-ring is missing.

HAAHA No Bro! It's called Twice a year fer 5 plus years Full Hammer BBC spiting sand and wheeling the Sierra's !!! This is an extreme abuse of what Sand can do when you do not maintenance year after year.. then just park yer rig fer ten years.... =Hubs Froze!! and my wheel bearings are toast as well... dumb Burt!!
